Measuring Procedure
Engine Block Flatness Inspection
Inspect the engine block as shown for flatness and distortion along the diagonal. Use a straight edge (1) and a feeler gauge (2). If the deck surface is out of specification, replace the block. Do NOT machine the block. Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications for the recommended limits.
Inspect the engine block as shown for flatness and deflection along the length and width. Use a straight edge (1) and a feeler gauge (2). If the deck surface is out of specification, replace the block. Do NOT machine the block. Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications for the recommended limits.
Cylinder Sleeve Diameter Inspection
Measure the cylinder bores at the following measure points, use the EN-8087 Cylinder Bore Gauge:
- 10 mm (0.394 in) (1).
- 35 mm (1.378 in) (2).
- 100 mm (3.937 in) (3).
- NOTE:
If the cylinder sleeve measurements are not within the recommended limits, ream the cylinder bores with the recommended oversize.
Inspect the cylinder bores, use the EN-8087 Cylinder Bore Gauge (1). Inspect for the following items:
- Wear of cylinder sleeve
- Cylinder sleeve diameter
- Tapering of cylinder sleeve
- Oval status of cylinder sleeve
Refer to Engine Block Cleaning and Inspection for the recommended limits.
Bearing Bore Diameter In Cylinder Block Inspection
- NOTE:
Install the crankshaft bearing caps in the same position as removed.
Crankshaft Bearing Cap (2) - Install [4x]
- Crankshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (1) - Install [8x] - Crankshaft and Bearing Installation
Inspect the bearing bore diameter (1) in the cylinder block using the EN-8087 Cylinder Bore Gauge. Refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications for the recommended limits.
- NOTE:
Organize the components in the order removed.
Crankshaft Bearing Cap Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [8x]
- Crankshaft Bearing Cap (2) - Remove [4x]
