Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Installation

Equivalent regional tools: Special Tools 

    NOTE:

    Always use a suitable hoist and hoisting attachments to support the engine. Assistance by a second technician may be necessary to stabilize the engine while performing this procedure. Ensure the engine is secured at all times when removing and installing the engine to the engine stand.

  1. Attach engine lift brackets to the engine. Engine Support Fixture 
  2. Attach suitable lifting chains to the engine lift brackets.
  3. Attach a hoist to the lifting chains and secure the engine.
  4. Remove the engine from the engine support stand.
  5. Clean all sealing surfaces.

    NOTE:

    The EN-52434-1  installer has an access hole (4) for the guide pin (5).

    EN-52434-1  installer (3) @ Crankshaft - Install

  7. Tighten the 2 bolts (2, 6) on the EN-52434-1  installer
  8. EN-52434-2  guide (1) @ EN-52434-1  installer - Install

    NOTE:
    • Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. - Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant 
    • All sealing surfaces must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealant.
    • Installation and final torque specification must be completed within 10 minutes after applying the sealant.

    Apply a 4 mm (0.16 in) bead of sealant (1) to a NEW crankshaft rear oil seal housing. Increase the thickness of the sealant bead to 6 mm (0.24 in) at the marked positions (2, 3). - Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    NOTE:

    Use EN-52483  Cover Installation Guide Pins (2) to help align the housing with the locating pins and the EN-52434  Rear Cover Seal Installer (3).

    EN-52483  Cover Installation Guide Pins (2) - Install [2x]

  11. Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing (1) - Install NEW
  12. EN-52483  Cover Installation Guide Pins (2) - Remove

    Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Loosely install [11x]

  14. Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Housing Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [11x]
    1. First Pass: 4 N.m (35 lb in)
    2. Final Pass: 8.5 N.m (75 lb in)
  15. EN-52434  Rear Cover Seal Installer @ Crankshaft - Remove
  16. NOTE:

    Ensure the engine is secured at all times when removing and installing the engine to the engine stand.

  17. Install the engine to the engine stand.
  18. Remove the hoist, lifting chains, and lift brackets.
