Oil Pressure Diagnosis and Testing

- With the vehicle on a level surface, run the engine and let warm up to at least 80 degrees C (175 degrees F), and once the engine is warm, check the engine oil level at idle.
- If required, add the recommended grade engine oil and fill the crankcase until the oil level measures full on the oil level indicator.
- While engine is idling, verify low oil pressure on the vehicle gauge or light.
- Listen for a noisy valve train or a knocking noise.
- Inspect for the following conditions:
- Oil diluted by water or glycol antifreeze. Coolant in Engine Oil
- Foamy oil, which may be caused by a cut or damaged oil pump screen seal.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
Disconnect the electrical connector. (1) - Engine Oil Pressure Sensor Replacement
Engine Oil Pressure Sensor (1) - Remove

- GE-21867 - A Pressure Gauge - Install
- Lower the vehicle.
- Run the engine until the engine reaches normal operating temperature and measure the engine oil pressure.
- Compare the readings to Engine Mechanical Specifications
- If the engine oil pressure is below specifications, inspect the engine for 1 or more of the following conditions:
- Excessive debris in the oil filter (possibly indicating internal engine damage). Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
- Excessive debris in the oil pan (possibly indicating internal engine damage). Oil Pan Replacement
- Check the oil pan front seal, oil deflector and the screens on the bottom. Oil Pan Overhaul
- Check if the engine oil cooler or oil cooler lines are plugged or damaged. Engine Oil Cooler Replacement
- Check if the engine oil cooler adapter is plugged or damaged. Engine Oil Cooler Adapter Replacement
- Oil pump and components worn or dirty.
- Oil pump-to-engine block bolts loose.
- Malfunctioning oil pump pressure relief valve. DTC P06DA-P06DD
- Excessive bearing clearance and/or bearing damage. Crankshaft and Bearing Removal and Installation
- Oil gallery plugs missing or incorrectly installed. Engine Block Overhaul
- Cracked, porous, or restricted oil galleries.

- Raise the vehicle.

Engine Oil Pressure Sensor (1) - Install - Engine Oil Pressure Sensor Replacement
Connect the electrical connector. (1) - Engine Oil Pressure Sensor Replacement
NOTE:
If DTC P0524 is set, engine speed is limited to approximately 2000 RPM and will default to Reduced Engine Power Mode.
NOTE:
Can use equivalent tool as required.
