Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Clean all sealing surfaces.
  2. Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant

    NOTE:
    • The engine front cover sealing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Install and align the engine front lower cover to engine block within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • The engine front cover must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes of applying the sealer.

    Apply approximately a 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant (1) to the engine front cover. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers

    Install EN-52440  Front Crankshaft Seal Guide (2) to the crankshaft.

  5. Install the engine front cover (1) backwards using the 2 tabs to size the seal.

    Remove the engine front cover (1) after seal is sized.

  7. Install the EN-52483  Guide Pins (2)
  8. CAUTION:

    Ensure correct orientation of the inner lip of the seal during installation. The inner lip of the seal can fold inward and damage the seal when contacting the crankshaft during installation if the seal has not been sized properly. Failure to ensure the inner lip of the seal is in the correct orientation may cause an ineffective repair and damage to the seal.

  9. Engine Front Cover (1) - Install
  10. Remove the EN-52440  Front Crankshaft Seal Guide (3).

    Engine Front Cover Bolt (1) - Install and hand tighten [9x]

  12. Remove the EN-52483  Guide Pins (2).

    Engine Front Cover Bolt (1) - Tighten in sequence [9x] 8.5 N.m (75 lb in)

    Crankshaft Balancer (1) - Install - Crankshaft Balancer Replacement
