Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Clean all sealing surfaces.
  2. Ensure the EN-52462-A  Camshaft Tool is installed prior to installing on the cylinder head, to ensure the camshafts are in the time position.

    EN-46109  Guide Pins - Install (3) [4x]

  4. NOTE:
    • The cylinder head and camshaft carrier sealing surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Install and align the camshaft carrier to cylinder head within 10 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • The camshaft carrier must be fastened to final torque specification within 15 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • Ensure proper use of room temperature vulcanizing (RTV) sealant. Use of Room Temperature Vulcanizing (RTV) and Anaerobic Sealant 
  5. Apply a 5 mm (0.2 in) bead of RTV (4) to the top and bottom of camshaft cover gasket to fill the T-joint. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers 
  6. NOTE:

    A small amount of adhesive in the corners will help keep the gasket in place.

  7. Camshaft Cover Gasket (2) - Install NEW
  8. Camshaft Carrier (1) - Install

    Remove the EN-52462-A  Camshaft Tool to install and tighten the bolts, then reinstall EN-52462-A  Camshaft Tool to keep camshafts in time position.

  10. Camshaft Carrier Bolt-M8 (3) - Install and hand tighten [5x]
  11. Remove the EN-46109  Guide Pins
  12. Camshaft Carrier Stud (1) - Install and hand tighten [14x]
  13. Camshaft Carrier Bolt-M6 (2) - Install and hand tighten [4x]

    Camshaft Carrier Bolt-M8 (3) - Tighten in sequence [5x] 36 N.m (27 lb ft)

  15. Camshaft Carrier Stud (1) - Tighten in sequence [14x] 15 N.m (11 lb ft)
  16. Camshaft Carrier Bolt-M6 (2) - Tighten in sequence [4x] 15 N.m (11 lb ft)

    Engine Wiring Harness Bracket (1) - Install

  18. Engine Wiring Harness Bracket Nut (2) - Install and tighten [2x] 9 N.m (80 lb in)
  19. Install harness retainers as needed.

    NOTE:

    The timing pin (3) is installed into the flexplate for engine timing procedures, it can be damaged if torque is applied to the flexplate with the timing pin engaged. The timing pin must be placed in the retracted position using the handle (1) and twisting to locked position. The slide part (4) to be installed to the flex plate when torque is applied to the flexplate or crankshaft balancer bolt.

    Ensure the timing pin (3) of the EN-52476  Flywheel Holding Tool (2) is installed to the automatic transmission flex plate.

    Install the EN-52461  Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (5) along with the 2 EN-52461  Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool (2, 3) to the camshaft carrier.

  22. Tighten the 2 bolts (1, 4) of EN-52461-100  Adapter Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool.

    CAUTION:

    Hold the camshaft sprocket firmly and squarely during camshaft sprocket bolt removal/installation. Failure to do so may result in damage to the inside of the camshaft sprocket.

    Hold the intake camshaft sprocket (1) from underneath the EN-52461  Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool and install the EN-52461-1  Holder into the intake camshaft sprocket to hold it securely before installing the camshaft sprocket bolt.

  24. Align the mark on the intake camshaft sprocket (1) with the alignment marks on the chain and camshaft carrier.

    Hold the exhaust camshaft sprocket (1) from underneath the EN-52461  Cam Phaser Torque Reaction Tool and install the EN-52461-1  Holder into the exhaust camshaft sprocket (1) to hold it securely before installing the camshaft sprocket bolt.

  26. Align the mark on the exhaust camshaft sprocket (1) with the alignment marks on the chain and camshaft carrier.

    Camshaft Sprocket Bolt (1) - Install NEW and hand tighten [2x] - Camshaft Sprocket Bolt Replacement

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Camshaft Cover Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 36 N.m (27 lb ft)

    Retainer (2) @ Camshaft Carrier (3) - Install [9x]

  30. Electrical Connector (1) @ Camshaft Carrier (3) - Connect [8x]

    Engine Coolant Heater Exhaust Pipe Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 8.5 N.m (75 lb in)

  32. Camshaft Cover Heat Shield - Install - Camshaft Cover Heat Shield Replacement 
  33. Ignition Coil - Install - Ignition Coil Replacement
  34. Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose - Install - Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose/Pipe/Tube Replacement

    Fuel Feed Front Pipe Bracket (1) - Install - Fuel Feed Front Pipe Bracket Replacement

  36. Fuel Pump - Install - Fuel Pump Replacement
  37. Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube @ Camshaft Carrier - Connect - Positive Crankcase Ventilation Tube Replacement

    EN-52476  Flywheel Holding Tool (2) - Remove

  39. Starter - Install - Starter Replacement (LSY)
  40. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct - Install - Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement
  41. Air Cleaner Outlet Intermediate Duct - Install - Air Cleaner Outlet Intermediate Duct Replacement
