Installation Procedure

  1. Raise the transmission with the transmission jack and position the transmission to the engine.

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Install the rear transmission bolts (1, 2) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).

    Install the front transmission to engine bolts (1, 2) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).

  4. Remove the transmission jack.
  5. Align the mark of the flex plate to the mark on the torque converter for reassembly.
  6. If reusing the torque converter bolts, prepare the bolts for installation as follows:
    1. Remove any loose cured adhesive from the external threads of the components using a lint free cloth.
    2. Thread the cleaned components into the internal mating threads and remove to loosen trapped cured adhesive.
    3. Apply thread locking adhesive to the external threads of the components. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
    4. Ensure there are no gaps in the thread locking adhesive once applied to the component.

    Install the torque converter to flex plate bolts (1) and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft),

  8. Install the starter. Starter Replacement (LGX) , or Starter Replacement (LCV) , or Starter Replacement (LSY)
  9. Install the left transmission mount to the transmission. Transmission Mount Replacement (Left) 
  10. Install the front transmission mount to transmission bolts. Transmission Front Mount Replacement .
  11. Install the wheel drive shafts to the transmission.
  12. Install the drivetrain and front suspension cradle. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation (FWD)
  13. Install the transmission rear mount to the transmission. Transmission Rear Mount Replacement (Front Wheel Drive) 
  14. Remove the engine support fixture. Engine Support Fixture

    Install the upper transmission to engine bolts (1, 2, 3) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).

    Position the auxiliary water pump (2) to it's original position.

  17. Install the heater water auxiliary pump bolt (1). Auxiliary Water Pump Replacement (LCV) , or Auxiliary Water Pump Replacement (LGX)

    Install the battery negative cable (2).

  19. Install the battery negative cable ground bolt. Battery Negative Cable Replacement (LGX) , or Battery Negative Cable Replacement (LCV) , or Battery Negative Cable Replacement (LSY)

    Connect the transmission fluid cooler outlet pipe (1) and transmission fluid cooler inlet pipe (2), to the transmission fluid auxiliary cooler lines. Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection

    Connect the electrical connector (2) to the transmission input speed sensor (1).

  22. Connect the electrical connector (5) to the auxiliary fluid accumulator (4).
  23. Engage the retainers (3).

    Connect the control valve body transmission control module electrical connector (1), then clip the wiring harness to the cover.

    Install the electrical harness bracket (2) to the control valve body cover.

  26. Install the electrical harness bracket nut (1) and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
  27. Connect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
  28. Clip the engine wiring harness to the transmission.
  29. Install the transmission range select lever cable to the transmission. Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement 
  30. Fill the transmission with correct fluid. Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers
  31. Check transmission fluid level. Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check
  32. Adjust the automatic transmission range selector lever cable. Range Selector Lever Cable Adjustment 
  33. If a NEW TCM has been installed into the vehicle, the NEW module needs to be reprogrammed. Service Programming System (SPS)
  34. NOTE:

    The Transmission Adaptive Values Learn procedure must be performed when one of the following repairs have been made to the vehicle. Failure to perform the procedure after one of the following repairs may result in poor transmission performance, as well as transmission DTCs being set:

    • Transmission internal service/overhaul
    • Valve body repair or replacement
    • Control solenoid valve assembly replacement
    • TCM software/calibration update
    • Any service in response to a shift quality concern
  35. Reprogram the transmission. Q77 Transmission Control Solenoid Valve Characterization Programming
  36. Road test the vehicle.
