Removal Procedure
- Identify how to disable high voltage.
- Identify how to test for the presence of high voltage.
- Identify condition under which high voltage is always present and personal protection equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.
- Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Disable the high voltage system and disconnect the A4 Hybrid/EV Battery Pack high voltage harness connector at the T6 Power Inverter Module. High Voltage Disabling
- Set the parking brake.
Remove the range selector lever cable from the transmission. Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement
- Drive Motor Generator Power Inverter Module Cooling System Draining and Filling - Drain
- Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LKN) - Remove
- Drive Motor Battery Radiator Surge Tank Replacement - Remove
- Drive Motor Generator Control Module Coolant Pump Hose Replacement (Pump to Aux Radiator) (1) - Remove
- Drive Motor Power Inverter Module Cooling Inlet Hose Replacement (Drive Motor Bat Rad Surge Tank To Pump)Drive Motor Power Inverter Module Cooling Inlet Hose Replacement (Trans Pipe to Aux Radiator) (1) - Remove
- Drain the transmission fluid. Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe Replacement (LKN With MKE) (1) - Remove
- Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe Replacement (LKN With MKE) (1) - Remove
Ground Cable Bolt (1) - Remove
- Ground Cable (2) - Remove
Ground Cable Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]
- Wiring Harness Bracket (2) - Remove
- Engine support fixture - Install
Remove the transmission mount (5). Transmission Mount Replacement
Heater Inlet Hose Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove
- Heater Inlet Hose Bracket (2) - Remove
- Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LKN) - Remove
- Remove the left front wheel drive shaft. Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side (MKE)
- Remove the right front wheel drive shaft. Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Right Side (LKN)
- Remove the exhaust heat exchanger. Exhaust Heat Exchanger Replacement (LKN)
Remove the 3 transmission bolts (1).
- Heater Coolant Pump Replacement (LKN) - Remove
- Remove the water outlet. Water Outlet Replacement (LKN)
Transmission Bolt (1) - Remove
Starter opening cover bolts (2) - Remove [2x]
- Remove the starter opening cover (1).
Remove the four input drive flange bolts (1).
- Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
- Using a suitable straps or chains, secure the transmission to the transmission jack.
Remove the transmission bolts. (1) [2x]
- Transmission Cover (2) - Remove
Remove the ground cable retaining bolt (1), then position the cable out of the way.
Remove the transmission bolts. (1) [2x]
- NOTE:
This is the last transmission bolt.
Transmission Bolt (1) - Remove
- Carefully lower the transmission along with the jack, closely watching hoses and wiring harnesses to not disturb.
Ensure the transmission locating pins (1) are properly seated in the engine block and not damaged.
- Flush and flow test the fluid cooler and lines. Transmission Fluid Cooler Flow Test and Flushing (5ET50)
Do not use a service jack in locations other than those specified to lift this vehicle. Lifting the vehicle with a jack in those other locations could cause the vehicle to slip off the jack and roll; this could cause injury or death.
Always perform the High Voltage Disabling procedure prior to servicing any High Voltage component or connection. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.
The High Voltage Disabling procedure will perform the following tasks:
