Removal Procedure
Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies. (1) Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Fuel Pressure Relief
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Without KL9) , or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (With KL9)
- Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE-47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)
Hood (2) - Remove - Hood Replacement
- Intake Manifold Cover - Remove - Intake Manifold Cover Replacement
Radiator Outlet Hose Clip (1) @ Charge Air Cooler Coolant Outlet Pipe (2) - Disengage
Charge Air Cooler Outlet Air Hose Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove
- Retainer Spring (2) @ Throttle Body - Disengage
- NOTE:
Front fascia removed for clarity.
Retainer Spring (1) @ Charge Air Cooler - Disengage
- Charge Air Cooler Coolant Outlet Pipe (2) - Remove
- NOTE:
Leave the positive crankcase ventilation tube connections attached.
Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Clamp (1) - Loosen [2x]
Electrical Connector @ Air Cleaner Assembly (1) - Disconnect
- Air Cleaner Assembly - (1) Remove
- Air Cleaner Outlet Duct - Reposition away
Retainer Spring (1) @ Compressor Air Intake Turbocharger - Disengage
Retainer Spring (1) @ Charge Air Cooler - Disengage
- Charge Air Cooler Inlet Air Tube (2) - Remove
Radiator Inlet Hose (2) @ Water Outlet - Disconnect - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Radiator Outlet Hose (2) @ Engine Coolant Thermostat Housing - Disconnect - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Engine Coolant Air Bleed Hose (2) @ Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe - Disconnect - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
Disconnect the heater inlet hose (3) and heater outlet hose (4) from the water outlet and reposition as necessary. Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Front Wheelhouse Liner- Left Side - Remove - Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Left Side
- Front Wheelhouse Liner- Right Side - Remove - Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement - Right Side (LFV, LTG)
- Front Compartment Splash Shield - Remove - Front Compartment Splash Shield Replacement
- Front Compartment Air Deflector - Remove - Front Compartment Air Deflector Replacement
Water Pump and Air Conditioning Compressor and Generator Belt (2) - Remove - Water Pump, Air Conditioning Compressor, and Generator Belt Replacement
- Remove the air conditioning compressor from the engine and position aside. Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LFV)
- Exhaust Pipe Front Hanger Bracket - Remove - Exhaust Pipe Front Hanger Bracket Replacement
- Exhaust Front Pipe - Remove - Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LFV)
- Starter - Remove - Starter Replacement (LFV)
Battery (3) - Remove - Battery Replacement
- Engine Control Module - Remove - Engine Control Module Replacement
- Battery Tray - Remove - Battery Tray Replacement (LFV)
- Turbocharger Heat Shield - Remove - Turbocharger Heat Shield Replacement
- Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket- Upper - Remove - Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Replacement (Lower LFV) , or Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Replacement (Upper LFV)
Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter (2) - Remove - Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement (LFV)
- Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket- Lower - Remove - Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Replacement (Lower LFV) , or Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Replacement (Upper LFV)
Automatic Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable Bolt (1) - Remove
- Slide the retainer lock (2) forward to expose the cable adjustment retainer (3).
- Using a suitable tool, raise the cable adjustment retainer (3) to the unlocked position.
- Remove the range selector lever cable (4) from the range selector lever cable lever and the range selector lever cable bracket.
Electrical Connector (1) - Disconnect [2x]
Torque Converter Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [3x]
Transmission Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]
- Transmission Converter Cover (2) - Remove
- Fuel Feed Front Pipe @ Fuel Feed Pipe - Disconnect - Fuel Feed Front Pipe Replacement
- Attach a suitable engine lifting device to engine lift brackets. If the engine lift brackets are not present, install EN-36857 Engine Lift Bracket Set with EN-52059 Engine Support Fixture Adapter Bolts.
- Install a suitable engine lifting device.
- Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
Engine Mount (2) - Remove - Engine Mount Replacement
Remove the starter/generator battery cable retainer (1) from the transmission stud (2).
Remove the transmission bolt (1).
- Remove the transmission stud (2).
- Disconnect the remaining electrical connections, hoses, and reposition harnesses as necessary.
- Use the engine lifting device to remove the engine.
- Install the engine to a suitable engine stand.
To gain access to the charge air cooler inlet tube, carefully reposition the air cleaner outlet duct with the positive crankcase ventilation tubes attached.
Do not disconnect the air conditioning compressor hose.
