Removal Procedure

  1. Upper Oil Pan Replacement  - Remove
  2. Rotate crankshaft to ensure that the balance shaft holes line up to install dowel to maintain timing.

    NOTE:
    • Install GM P/N 12628143 balancer shaft gear pin to the balancer shafts before removing the assembly to maintain timing and aid installation.
    • If GM P/N 12628143 balancer shaft gear pin is not available, install a 4 - 5 mm dowel rod through the holes in both balancer shafts to maintain timing.

    Install GM P/N 12628143 balancer shaft gear pin (1) on the balance shaft assembly.

    Remove the balance shaft assembly bolts in sequence shown.

    Remove the balance shaft assembly bolts (1 - 3) and balance shaft assembly (4).

  6. NOTE:

    If reinstalling the balancer, clean and inspect as needed.
