Removal Procedure
Engine Cover (1) - Remove - Engine Cover Replacement
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Single Battery) , or Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (Dual Battery)
- Recover the HVAC refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
- Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static LC8, LV1, L96) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE47716 LC8, LV1, L96)
- Drain the engine oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace- Left Side (2) - Remove - Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement - Left Side
Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace- Right Side (2) - Remove - Front End Sheet Metal Diagonal Brace Replacement - Right Side
Air Cleaner Assembly (4) - Remove - Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
Coolant Recovery Reservoir (1) - Remove - Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement (L96, LC8)
Remove both headlamps (2). Front Headlamp Replacement
Front Bumper Impact Bar (2) - Remove - Front Bumper Impact Bar Replacement
Hose Clamp (1) - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Radiator Vent Inlet Hose (2) @ Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe - Remove
Radiator Inlet Hose Clamp (1) - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Radiator Inlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Remove
Radiator Outlet Hose Clamp (1) - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Radiator Outlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Remove
Transmission Fluid Cooler Pipe (1) @ Radiator (2) - Remove [2x] - Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Quick-Connect Fitting Disconnection and Connection
Engine Oil Cooler Hose (1) @ Engine Oil Cooler Connector - Disconnect - Engine Oil Cooler Pipe/Hose Quick Connect Fitting Replacement
- Engine Oil Cooler Hose (2) @ - Engine Oil Cooler Connector - Disconnect - Engine Oil Cooler Pipe/Hose Quick Connect Fitting Replacement
Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose (2) @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Remove - Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement (L96, LC8)
Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube (2) @ Air Conditioning Condenser - Remove - Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Replacement (C60) , or Air Conditioning Evaporator Tube Replacement (C69)
Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Cooler (2) - Remove - Transmission Fluid Auxiliary Cooler Replacement (MYD)
Junction Block Cover (2) - Remove
- Battery Positive Cable Nut (1) - Remove
- Battery Positive Cable (3) - Remove
Disconnect the release cable (1) from the hood primary latch.
- Disconnect electrical connection and harness retainers at radiator support.
Radiator Lower Support Bolt (1) - Remove [8x]
- With the aid of an assistant, remove the core support assembly (2) with the radiator, condenser, radiator hoses and fan shroud intact.
Fan Blade (1) - Remove - Fan Blade Replacement (L96, LC8)
Drive Belt (1) - Remove - Drive Belt Replacement - Accessory
- NOTE:
Leave the generator and power steering pump retained to the bracket. Use a suitable strap and position the bracket assembly aside.
Generator and Power Steering Pump Bracket (2) - Remove - Generator and Power Steering Pump Bracket Replacement (L96, LC8)
Air Conditioning Compressor (2) - Remove - Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement (LV1)
Heater Outlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Water Pump - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Heater Outlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Remove - Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (L96, LC8 Heater Water Flow Control Valve to Heater Core Outlet Tube) , or Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (L96, LC8 Water Pump Housing to Heater Water Flow Control Valve) , or Heater Outlet Hose Replacement (L96 Auxiliary Heater Inlet and Outlet Pipe to Heater Core Outlet Tube)
Heater Inlet Hose Clamp (1) @ Water Pump - Disengage - Hose Clamp Replacement Guidelines - Spring Type
- Heater Inlet Hose (2) @ Water Pump - Remove - Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (L96, LC8 Heater Water Flow Control Valve to Heater Core Inlet Tube) , or Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (L96, LC8 Water Pump Housing to Heater Water Flow Control Valve) , or Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (L96 Heater Core Inlet Tube to Auxiliary Heater Inlet and Outlet Pipe)
Intake Manifold (1) - Remove - Intake Manifold Replacement
Ignition Coil (2) - Remove [8x] - Ignition Coil Replacement
Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe (1) - Remove - Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (L96, LC8)
- Raise the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
Starter (3) - Remove - Starter Replacement (L96, LC8)
Exhaust Front Pipe Nut (1) @ Left Side - Remove [3x]
Exhaust Front Pipe Nut (1) @ Right Side - Remove [3x]
- Disconnect the following electrical connectors:
- The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor
- The engine oil level sensor
- The coolant heater, if equipped
- Gather all the engine wiring harness and reposition off to the side.
Remove the bolts (1, 2, 5, 6) securing the transmission to the engine.
Remove the flywheel to torque converter bolts (1).
- Lower the vehicle.
Exhaust Manifold- Right Side (1) - Remove - Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Right Side (L96, LC8)
Exhaust Manifold- Left Side (1) - Remove - Exhaust Manifold Replacement - Left Side (L96, LC8)
Transmission Fluid Filler Tube (1) - Remove - Transmission Fluid Filler Tube and Seal Replacement
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
Install the J 36857-1 Engine Lift Bracket to the cylinder heads.
Tighten
- Tighten the M8 engine lift bracket bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Tighten the M10 engine lift bracket bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
Engine Mount Bolt- Left Side (1) @ Frame - Remove [2x]
Engine Mount Bolt- Left Side (1) @ Frame - Remove
Engine Mount Bolt- Right Side (1) @ Frame - Remove
Engine Mount Bolt- Right Side (1) @ Frame - Remove [2x]
Remove the bolts (3, 4) securing the transmission to the engine.
- Install a floor jack under the transmission for support.
- Disconnect electrical connectors as necessary.
- Install an engine hoist to the J 36857-1 Engine Lift Bracket.
- Separate the engine from the automatic transmission.
- Install the J 21366 holding strap to the transmission to hold the torque converter.
- With the aid of an assistant, carefully raise the engine out of the vehicle while checking for component interference.
- Install the engine to an engine stand.
- Remove the engine hoist.
- Remove the J 36857-1 Engine Lift Bracket from the engine.
