Removal Procedure

- Steering Gear - Remove - Steering Gear Replacement (Without LWN) , or Steering Gear Replacement (With LWN)
- Remove any dirt or debris from the steering gear.
Pitman Arm(3) - Remove - Pitman Arm Replacement
- NOTE:
The steering gear pitman shaft will NOT clear the steering gear housing if the steering gear stub shaft is not centered.
Ensure the steering gear pitman shaft is centered by checking the following items (1):
- The flat on the steering gear stub shaft (1) faces upward.
- The flat on the steering gear stub shaft (1) is parallel with the steering gear side cover.
Remove the 4 steering gear pitman shaft housing cover bolts (1).
- Remove the steering gear pitman shaft lash adjuster nut (2).
- Remove the steering gear pitman shaft housing cover (3).
- Remove the steering gear pitman shaft housing cover O-ring seal (4) and DISCARD.
Remove and DISCARD the steering gear pitman shaft seal (3).
NOTE:
Cleaning the entire steering gear of dirt and debris will ensure no contaminants enter the steering gear.
