Removal Procedure
- Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Harness - Remove - Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Harness Replacement
- Air Cleaner Assembly - Remove - Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
Water Pump Pulley (2) - Remove - Water Pump Pulley Replacement (LGX)
Camshaft Cover - Left Side (2) - Remove - Camshaft Cover Replacement - Left Side
Camshaft Cover - Right Side (2) - Remove - Camshaft Cover Replacement - Right Side
- Drain the cooling system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) , or Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)
- Engine Oil Cooler Adapter - Remove - Engine Oil Cooler Adapter Replacement (LGX)
Remove the water outlet (2) with the radiator hose and reposition aside. Water Outlet Replacement (LGX)
- Crankshaft Balancer - Remove - Crankshaft Balancer Replacement
- Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe - Remove - Engine Coolant Air Bleed Pipe Replacement (LGX)
Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Electrical Connector (1) - Disconnect
- Remove the engine ground fastener and ground cable attached to the front cover.
- Detach retainers and position engine harness aside.
- Water Pump Inlet Pipe - Remove - Water Pump Inlet Pipe Replacement (LGX)
- Water Pump - Remove - Water Pump Replacement (LGX)
Remove the 3 oil pan-to-front cover bolts (1)
- Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Harness - Remove - Oil Pump Flow Control Solenoid Valve Harness Replacement
- NOTE:
It is not necessary to remove the upper oil pan when servicing the front cover in vehicle.
Engine Front Cover - Remove - Engine Front Cover Removal
- Disassemble the engine front cover. Engine Front Cover Disassemble
- Carefully clean the engine front cover sealing surfaces. Engine Front Cover Cleaning and Inspection
- Use compressed air in order to remove any engine coolant from the engine cooling passages and from the top of the oil pan scraper (windage tray).
Do NOT use sharp and/or metal gasket scrapers in order to clean the sealing surfaces.
Insert a piece of cardboard between the oil pan front and the oil pump in order to prevent any contaminants from falling into the oil pan.
