Removal Procedure

    Remove the front cradle shear plate (3). Front Cradle Shear Plate Replacement

    Remove the catalytic converter brace bracket. Catalytic Converter Brace Bracket Replacement (LT1, LT4)

  3. Support the transmission using a suitable transmission jack.
  4. Disconnect the transmission control from the transmission. Transmission Control Replacement (MH3, MJK, MM6)

    Disconnect the following electrical connectors:

    • Shift Fork Position Sensor (1)
    • Vehicle Speed Sensor (2)
  6. Disconnect the wiring harness clips (3) from the transmission.

    Disconnect the oil cooler line clip (1) from the transmission.

    Disconnect the following electrical connectors:

    • Oxygen Sensor (1)
    • Fluid Temperature Sensor (2)
    • Skip Shift Solenoid (3)
    • Reverse Lockout Solenoid (4)
  9. Disconnect the wiring harness clips (5) from the transmission.

    Remove the retaining clip (1).

  11. Disconnect the cooler pipe retainer (2).
  12. NOTE:

    Plug or cap all open transmission fluid cooler pipe connections.

  13. Disconnect the cooler pipe (3) from the transmission.

    Remove the retaining clip (1).

  15. Disconnect the cooler pipe (2) from the transmission.

    Remove the hydraulic clutch hose/pipe (1) retaining clip from the clutch slave cylinder.

  17. CAUTION:

    Care must be taken when disassembling the clutch actuator cylinder hose connector from the clutch actuator cylinder. Do not remove, misposition, or damage the internal restrictor valve/Peak Torque Limiter (PTL). Operating a vehicle with a removed, mispositioned, or damaged PTL valve could result in severe driveline damage.

  18. Disconnect the hydraulic clutch hose/pipe (2) from the clutch slave cylinder. Plug the lower hose end.

    Remove the lower transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1, 2).

    Disconnect the wiring harness retainers (1) from the transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners.

    Remove the four upper transmission clutch housing to engine fasteners (1).

  22. Disconnect the intermediate steering shaft from the mid intermediate steering shaft. Mid Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement
  23. Remove the front wheel house liners. Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement , or Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement (ZL1)

    Remove the left and right side rear front brake rotor cooling duct (1). Front Brake Rotor Cooling Duct Replacement

    NOTE:

    Securely support the drivetrain and front suspension cradle with an adjustable jack.

    Loosen the four front cradle bolts (1), and remove the four rear cradle bolts (2) to allow the rear of the cradle support to tilt down with the jack approximately 125 mm (5 in). Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Removal and Installation (LT1, LT4)

  26. Place a suitable transmission jack to the transmission and secure the transmission to the jack.

    Remove the left side lower transmission clutch housing to engine fastener (1).

    Remove the right side lower transmission clutch housing to engine fastener (1).

  29. NOTE:

    Do not leave the engine tilted on its mounts for an extended amount of time.

  30. Remove the transmission from the vehicle. To clear the body structure, the front of the engine can be pushed up to tilt the engine and transmission.
  31. Flush and flow test the transmission oil cooler and lines. Transmission Fluid Cooler Flow Test and Flushing (V03) , or Transmission Fluid Cooler Flow Test and Flushing (ZL1 with V03)
  32. Transfer components as necessary.
