With Scan Tool

  1. Perform the following steps:
    • Set the parking brake.
    • Block the drive wheels.
  2. Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
  3. Verify there are no DTCs set related to the following component/system: B227 Gear Position Sensor
    • Go to next step: If a related DTC is not set 
  4. Shift Control Lever = Neutral 3-4 - Gate Select Position
  5. Select: Module Diagnostics
  6. Select: Engine Control Module
  7. Select: Configuration/Reset Functions
  8. Select: Learn Functions
  9. Select: Gear Position Sensor Learn

    Verify the scan tool parameter: Gear Position Sensor Learn Status = Stage 1

  10. Shift Control Lever = Neutral 1-2 or Neutral 5-6 - Gate Select Position

    Verify the scan tool parameter: Gear Position Sensor Learn Status = Stage 2

  11. Shift Control Lever = Neutral 3-4 - Gate Select Position

    Verify the scan tool parameter: Gear Position Sensor Learn Status = Stage 3

    • If the procedure was not successful 

      Verify the scan tool parameter: Gear Position Sensor Learn Abort Reason

      Refer to: Step 4 or Refer to: DTC P18CA 

    • Go to next step: If the procedure was successful 
  12. All OK.
