Input Shaft, Main Shaft, and Counter Gear

    Rotate the clutch housing to the vertical position.

  2. Install the following assemblies in order:
    1. The countershaft bearing race (1).
    2. The input shaft bearing race (2)
    3. The input shaft (5)
    4. Align the 4th speed gear blocking ring to the input shaft.
    5. The mainshaft assembly (4)
    6. The countershaft (3), lifting up the mainshaft (4) enough to install the countershaft (3).

    Install the transmission case (1).

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Install the clutch housing to transmission case bolts (1) and tighten to 33 N.m (27 lb ft).

    Measure the input shaft/main shaft end play using the following procedure:

    1. Place the tip of the J 8001  indicator set (1) on the end of the main shaft.
    2. Move the main shaft up and down.
    3. Record the measurement.
  6. Select a shim to achieve 0.0127 - 0.0889 mm (0.00049 - 0.00349 in) end play.
  7. Remove the J 8001  indicator set.

    Measure the counter gear end play using the following procedure:

    1. Place the tip of the J 8001  indicator set (1) on the end of the counter gear.
    2. Move the counter gear up and down.
    3. Record the measurement.
  9. Select a shim to achieve 0.0127 - 0.0889 mm (0.00049 - 0.00349 in) end play.
  10. Remove the J 8001  indicator set.

    Remove the clutch housing to the transmission case bolts (1).

    Remove the transmission case (1).

    Remove the following parts in order:

    1. The countershaft (3), lifting up the mainshaft (4) enough to remove the countershaft (3).
    2. The mainshaft assembly (4).
    3. The input shaft (5).
    4. The input shaft bearing race (2).
    5. The countershaft bearing race (1).

    Install the NEW correct size input shaft bearing shim (2), and the original input shaft bearing race (1).

    Install the NEW correct size countershaft shaft bearing shim (2), and the original countershaft bearing race (1).
