Circuit/System Testing

- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Verify the following conditions do not exist:
- B115 Vehicle Speed Sensor - Cracked/Contamination/Loose
- Reluctor Ring - Cracked/Contamination/Loose
- Disconnect the electrical connector: B115 Vehicle Speed Sensor
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 3/C & Ground
- If 10 ohms or greater
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K20 Engine Control Module
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Ground circuit terminal 3/C @ Component harness & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
- Go to next step: If less than 10 ohms
- Verify a test lamp turns On between the test points: Ignition circuit terminal 1/A & Ground circuit terminal 3/C
- If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is OK
- Remove - Test Lamp
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Ignition circuit terminal 1/A & Output terminal @ Fuse
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Verify the fuse is OK and there is voltage at the fuse.
- If the test lamp does not turn On and the circuit fuse is open
- Connect the electrical connector: B115 Vehicle Speed Sensor
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Replace the component: Fuse
- Engine - Idling - At normal operating temperature
- Verify the fuse does not open.
- If the fuse opens and there are components connected to the circuit - Disconnect a component and repeat procedure starting at step 5.2
- If the fuse opens with all components disconnected from the circuit - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If the fuse does not open after disconnecting a component from the circuit - Replace the component disconnected last.
- Go to next step: If the fuse does not open with all components connected.
- All OK.
- Go to next step: If the test lamp turns On
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Connect the special tool: EL-38522 Variable Signal Generator
- Set the voltage to 5 V
- Set the frequency to 600 Hz
- Set the duty cycle to 50%
- Red lead @ Signal circuit terminal 2/B
- Black lead @ Ground
- Ignition - On/Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Verify the scan tool parameter: Vehicle Speed Sensor = 116 to 122 km/h (72 to 76 MPH)
- If not between 116 and 122 km/h (72 and 76 MPH)
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: K20 Engine Control Module
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 2/B @ Component harness & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If less than 1 V
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 2/B @ Component harness & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If infinite resistance
- Test for less than 2 ohms between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 2/B @ Component harness & The other end of the circuit
- If 2 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 ohms - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
- Go to next step: If between 116 and 122 km/h (72 and 76 MPH)
- Test or replace the component: B115 Vehicle Speed Sensor
NOTE:
It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.
