Clutch Slip Detection/Alert/Action Feature

Using the inputs, the ECM can detect if the clutch is slipping under various conditions:
NOTE:
Reducing the use of the clutch refers to reducing the amount of slip time where the clutch is neither fully engaged nor fully disengaged - For example: during extended 1st gear launches or gear changes. Reducing the use of the clutch will reduce the amount of heat and wear incurred on the clutch driven plate, engine flywheel, and clutch pressure plate.
- After a gear shift, with the clutch pedal released, and the engine under load; if the measured gear ratio is excessively higher than the highest transmission gear ratio; the ECM will momentarily reduce engine torque in an effort to reduce clutch slippage. A message on the DIC will be displayed to alert the driver that engine performance has been reduced and use of the clutch needs to be reduced.
- If the calculated gear state changes, without the use of the clutch, while the engine is under load; the ECM will momentarily reduce engine torque in an effort to reduce clutch slippage.
- Driving with the clutch pedal fully released, and the engine under load; if the measured gear ratio is excessively higher than the current transmission gear ratio; the ECM will momentarily reduce engine torque in an effort to reduce clutch slippage. A message on the DIC will be displayed to alert the driver that engine performance has been reduced and use of the clutch needs to be reduced. Additionally, if excessive clutch slip events occur, the ECM may set DTC P17A2 and display a message on the DIC alerting the driver to service the transmission.
- In the event that the ECM detects this scenario is present, the DIC message will read: REDUCED PERFORMANCE - REDUCE CLUTCH USE or REDUCED ENGINE POWER.
