Removal Procedure
- Open the hood.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Intake Manifold Cover Replacement (LV7) - Remove
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
- Drain the transmission fluid. - Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill (Maintenance) , or Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill (Repair)
- Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-134a) , or Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf) .
- Remove the front wheels and tires. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
- Remove the engine control module. Refer to Engine Control Module Replacement .
- Remove the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
- Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement (without Engine Block Heater) , or Battery Tray Replacement (with Engine Block Heater) .
- NOTE:
Turn the steering wheel randomly to lock the steering wheel.
Remove the steering gear dashboard inner seal by turning the seal (1).
- Remove the lower intermediate steering shaft bolt (2), and detach the lower intermediate steering shaft (3).
Battery Positive Cable Nut(1, 2) - Remove
- Battery Positive Cable(3) - Remove@Battery Positive Cable Junction Block (4)
Remove the engine wiring harness fuse block cover.
Engine Wiring Harness(1) & Body Wiring Harness(2) - Disconnect
- Remove the fuse block. Refer to Fuse Block Replacement .
Remove the ground bolt (1) and put the wiring harness (2) aside.
Transmission Range Selector Lever Cable(2) - Disconnect@Transmission Range Selector Lever(1)
- Press the retainer clip tabs inward in order to release the transmission range selector lever cable (2) from the bracket (3)
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the exhaust muffler. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement (L5Q) , or Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LV7) .
- Disconnect the heater inlet hose. Refer to Heater Inlet Hose Replacement .
- Disconnect the heater outlet hose. Refer to Heater Outlet Hose Replacement .
Remove the brake booster vacuum pipe (1) from the vacuum pump.
Disconnect the fuel feed pipe fitting (1) from the fuel rail.
Disconnect the evaporative emission pipe fitting (1) from the evaporative emission canister purge solenoid valve.
Remove the surge tank fixing bolts and set aside.
- Remove the front bumper fascia. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement .
Remove the radiator air upper baffle and deflector 6 retainers (1) and the radiator air upper baffle and deflector (2). Refer to Radiator Air Upper Baffle and Deflector Replacement .
Remove the radiator air lower baffle 5 retainers (1) and the radiator air lower baffle (2). Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle Replacement .
Remove the air conditioning evaporator hose assembly bolt (1) from the air conditioning compressor and air conditioning evaporator hose assembly nut (2) from the condenser. Remove the air conditioning evaporator hose assembly (3, 4). Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Hose Replacement (L5Q) , or Air Conditioning Evaporator Hose Replacement (LV7) .
- Disconnect the outer tie rod assembly from the steering knuckle. Repeat for opposite side. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
- Remove the wheel drive shaft nut and washer from the wheel drive shaft and discard. Repeat for opposite side. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .
- Separate the control arm ball joint from the steering knuckle. Repeat for opposite side. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement .
Remove the front upper stabilizer shaft link nut (1), and push the front upper stabilizer shaft link (2) aside. Repeat for opposite side.
- Disconnect any additional electrical connections as necessary.
- Position the engine assembly on a suitable powertrain table or an engine lifter below the cradle with suitable woodblocks or suitable rubber blocks.
- Lower the vehicle until the suitable powertrain table or the engine lifter with suitable woodblocks or suitable rubber blocks.
Remove the cradle bracket bolts (1).
Remove the cradle front bolts (1) and washers (2), and cradle rear bolts (3) and washers (4).
Mark the location of the bolts before removing.
- Engine Mount Bolt(1) - Remove[3x]
Mark the location of the bolts before removing.
- Transmission Mount Bolt(1) - Remove[3x]
- With the aid of an assistant, lower the engine lifter, or raise the vehicle to remove the engine, transmission and cradle assembly from the vehicle.
Remove the engine master harness wiring assembly (1) from the engine assembly.
Remove the battery positive cable assembly and body master harness wiring assembly (1) from the engine assembly.
Air Cleaner Outlet Duct - Remove - Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (L5Q) , or Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (LV7)
- Remove the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement .
- Remove the radiator outlet hose. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement .
- Remove the air conditioning compressor and condenser hose. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement .
- Remove the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement .
Remove the both front wheel drive shafts (1) from the transmission. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .
Remove the transmission upper bolts (1) and nut (2) from the transmission.
- Remove the transmission rear mount bracket. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement .
- Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle - Remove
- Catalytic Converter - Remove
- Starter - Remove
Torque Converter Bolt - Remove[4x]
Remove the transmission lower bolt (1).
- Remove the transmission side cover (2).
- Separate the transmission from the engine.
- Install the engine to an engine stand.
- Transfer parts as needed.
Make sure that all the hoses, wires, pipes and front struts clear the vehicle during the removal process.
