Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill (Maintenance)

CAUTION:
Use correct transmission fluid only. Failure to use the proper fluid may result in transmission internal damage.
- The vehicle must be level.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
Remove the drain plug (1), drain plug gasket (2) and overflow tube (3) and drain transmission fluid into a suitable container.
- Install the drain plug (1) with the OLD drain plug gasket (2).
Press the tab (1) using a small flat-bladed screwdriver and then remove the fill cap (2).
- Pour approximately 3.0L (3.17 qt) of the transmission fluid into the charging pipe (3).
- Start the engine.
- Move through the selector lever positions with the foot brake depressed. Switch the selector lever from position P to L and back to P. Hold each position for at least 5 seconds.
- Stop the engine.
- Remove the drain plug and then drain transmission fluid from the oil pan.
- Repeat the above steps 4 - 10 (one time).
- CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
Install the overflow tube (3) and tighten to 15 N.m (11 lb ft)
- Install the drain plug (1) with a NEW drain plug gasket (2) and tighten to 34 N.m (25 lb ft)
- Pour approximately 3.0L (3.17 qt) of the transmission fluid into the charging pipe.
- Install the fill cap.
- Check the ATF level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check .
