Circuit/System Testing

  1. Verify the following conditions do not exist with the exhaust pressure differential system:
    • Modifications.
    • Externally damaged or worn components.
    • Loose or improperly installed components.
    • Improperly routed differential pressure lines - The exhaust differential pressure line should have a continuous downward gradient without any sharp bends or kinks from the sensor to the DPF.
    • Leaks or internal restrictions from the B154 Exhaust Pressure Differential sensor lines.
    • If a condition is found 

      Repair as necessary

    • Go to next step: If no condition is found 
  2. NOTE:

    Pinhole size leaks in the induction system or exhaust system may cause this DTC to set. Verifying the integrity of these systems is critical to a proper diagnosis. The Full System Air Leak Test must be performed first, then the Induction System Smoke Test must be performed in order to identify any leaks that may exist.

  3. Verify the following conditions do not exist:
    • Charge air cooler (CAC) and Air induction system leaks. Perform the Full System Air Leak Test and then the Induction System Smoke Test. Refer to Charge Air Cooler Diagnosis (Leak Test) Charge Air Cooler Diagnosis (Smoke Test) 
    • Exhaust system leaks. An exhaust system leak may cause inaccurate B131 Exhaust Gas Temperature sensor or B154 Diesel Particulate Exhaust Differential Pressure sensor values causing this DTC to set - Refer to Exhaust Leakage .
    • Water in fuel contamination - Refer to Contaminants-in-Fuel Diagnosis .
    • A cracked or damaged Mass Air Flow sensor housing.
    • A skewed, stuck in range, or slow responding MAF sensor. Inspect the MAF sensor for contamination. Refer to DTC P0101-P0103 .
    • A skewed or shifted B154 Diesel Particulate Exhaust Differential Pressure sensor. A sensor that is skewed will cause inaccuracies in the soot model and may cause this DTC to set.
    • Failed, intermittent, improperly installed or loose B131 Exhaust Gas Temperature sensors will cause inaccuracies in the soot model and cause this DTC to set.
    • Engine mechanical condition, for example low compression. Refer to Symptoms - Engine Mechanical .
    • If a condition is found 

      Repair as necessary

    • Go to next step: If no condition is found 
  4. Perform Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Service Regeneration .
    • If the DPF service regeneration does not complete 

      Replace the diesel particulate filter.

    • Go to next step: If the DPF service regeneration completes 
  5. All OK.
