Valve Stem Oil Seal Replacement Procedure
- Connect a compressed air hose with a pressure regulator and pressurize cylinder 1 to 200 kPa (29 psi).
- Replace the 2 exhaust or intake valve stem oil seals:
- WARNING:
Compressed valve springs have high tension against the valve spring compressor. Valve springs that are not properly compressed by or released from the valve spring compressor can be ejected from the valve spring compressor with intense force. Use care when compressing or releasing the valve spring with the valve spring compressor and when removing or installing the valve stem keys. Failing to use care may cause personal injury.
NOTE:The demounting piece must be applied parallel to the valve retainers in order to prevent damage to the tools or the valve train components.
Push down valve spring retainer (2) with the compressor kit and demounting piece and compress the valve spring (3) until the valve keys (1) are free from tension.
- Carefully remove the valve keys (1).
- Release the tension of the demounting piece.
Remove the valve spring retainer (1) and the exhaust or intake valve spring (2).
Valve Stem Oil Seal (2) - Remove and DISCARD - Use the special tool: EN-46116 remover (1)
Valve Stem Oil Seal (2) - Install NEW - Use the special tool: EN-46116 installer (1)
- NOTE:
Make sure that the valve springs and the valve spring retainers will be installed in their original position.
Install the exhaust or intake valve spring (2) and the valve spring retainer (1). Which valve spring needs to be installed, depends on the installation progress.

CAUTION:The valve stem keys must correctly seat in the valve spring cap. Engine damage may occur by not installing properly.
Push down valve spring retainer (2) with the compressor kit and demounting piece and compress the valve spring (3). Carefully insert the valve keys (1).
- Ensure the proper seat of the valve keys (1).
- Carefully release tension of the demounting piece.
- Inspect the valve keys and the valve spring retainer for proper seat.
- Repeat the procedure on the other exhaust or intake valve stem oil seal of cylinder.
- Release air pressure from cylinder.
Fuel Injector Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove
- Fuel Injector Bracket (3) - Remove
Reposition the EN-51110 (2)
- Fuel Injector Bracket (3) - Install
- Fuel Injector Bracket Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 10 N.m (89 lb in)
- Apply air pressure and pressurize cylinder to 200 kPa (29 psi).
- Replace the 2 intake valve stem oil seals:
- Repeat the steps 2.1 - 2.12.
- Release air pressure and disconnect the air pressure hose from cylinder.
Reposition the EN-50717 (1)
- Repeat the steps for the remaining cylinders.
- Release air pressure and disconnect the air pressure hose from EN-51110 .
Ensure the cylinder is pressurized.
