Installation Procedure
- Check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear:
- Timing chain guides with plastic attachment
- Timing chain tensioner and timing chain tensioner shoe with plastic attachment
- Timing chain and all timing chain sprockets
- Oil pump sprocket
- Oil pump drive chain tensioner
Re-cut thread at cylinder head and engine block for the 2 timing chain upper guide bolts (2).
- Timing Chain Upper Guide (1) - Install
- Apply thread lock agent to the upper timing chain upper guide bolt (2).
- Install the upper timing chain upper guide bolt (2).
Install the timing chain with the marked chain links as shown and follow the installation sequence:
- Install the timing chain in the first step to the fuel injection pump sprocket (2).
- Install the timing chain in the second step to the camshaft sprocket (1).
- Install the timing chain in the final step to the timing chain idler sprocket (3).
- CAUTION:
Apply thread lock agent to the lower timing chain upper guide bolt (3).
- Timing Chain Upper Guide Bolt (3) - Install and tighten 11 N.m (97 lb in)
- Timing Chain Upper Guide Bolt (1) - Tighten 11 N.m (97 lb in)
Timing Chain Lower Guide (1) - Install
- Timing Chain Lower Guide Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [2x] 10 N.m (89 lb in)
Timing Chain Tensioner Shoe (1) - Install
- Timing Chain Tensioner Shoe Bolt (2) - Install and tighten 25 N.m (18 lb ft)
EN-50513 Pin (2) - Remove
EN-51143 Fixing Tool (1) - Remove
- Raise the vehicle.
Bolt (3) - Remove [2x]
- EN-51140 Fixing Tool (2) - Remove
Crankshaft Pulley Bolt (1) - Install [4x]
Rotate the crankshaft 720 degrees in direction of arrow. Use a pry bar at the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).
- Crankshaft Pulley Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]
EN-51140 Fixing Tool (2) - Install
- Bolt (3) - Install [2x]
- Lower the vehicle.
EN-51143 Fixing Tool (1) - Install
- If the fixing pin does not fit into the camshaft sprocket bore, the camshaft timing must be adjusted. Camshaft Timing Chain Adjustment
- EN-51143 Fixing Tool (1) - Remove
- Raise the vehicle.
Bolt (3) - Remove [2x]
- EN-51140 Fixing Tool (2) - Remove
Crankshaft Pulley (1) - Install - Crankshaft Pulley Replacement
Timing Chain Lower Cover (2) - Install - Timing Chain Lower Cover Replacement
Oil Pan (2) - Install - Oil Pan Replacement (Automatic Transmission)
Crankshaft Position Sensor Reluctor Ring (1) - Install - Crankshaft Position Sensor Reluctor Ring Replacement (Automatic Transmission)
Automatic Transmission Flex Plate (1) - Install - Automatic Transmission Flex Plate Replacement
Transmission (3) - Install
Engine Lift Bracket Bolt (2) - Remove
- Engine Lift Bracket - Left Side (1) @ Cylinder Head - Remove
Engine Lift Bracket Bolt (2) - Remove
- Engine Lift Bracket - Right Side (1) @ Cylinder Head - Remove
Timing Chain Upper Cover (2) - Install - Timing Chain Upper Cover Replacement

Before installing the camshaft timing chain, check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear.
The tightening procedure of the timing chain upper guide bolts should be completed within 10 minutes.
Do not tighten the upper timing chain upper guide bolt before the camshaft timing chain is installed.
