Measurement Procedure

Cylinder 1:

    Crankshaft Pulley Bolt (2) @ Crankshaft (1) - Install [4x]

    NOTE:

    If air leakage sounds at the intake manifold tube and exhaust system tailpipe rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees.

    Adjust the piston of cylinder 1 at top dead center (TDC) of compression stroke.

    1. Rotate the crankshaft (1) in direction of arrow until the matching mark (2) is at the top. Use a pry bar at the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (3).

    Crankshaft Pulley Bolt (2) @ Crankshaft (1) - Remove [4x]

    Install the EN-51140  fixing tool (2).

  5. Guide the fixing pin (1) into the engine block bore.
  6. Bolt (3) - Install and tighten [2x]
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Apply shop air pressure to the tester and adjust according to the manufacturers instructions.
  9. Record the cylinder leakage value. For cylinder leakage value refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications . In excessive leakage situations, inspect for the following conditions:
    • Air leakage sounds at the intake manifold tube, may indicate a worn, stuck or burnt intake valve.
    • Air leakage sounds at the exhaust system tailpipe may indicate a worn, burnt, or stuck exhaust valve, broken valve spring, incorrect valve lash or damaged valve train components.
    • Air leakage sounds from the crankcase, oil level indicator tube, or oil fill tube may indicate worn piston rings, a damaged piston, a worn or scored cylinder bore, a damaged engine block or a damaged cylinder head.
    • Air bubbles in the cooling system may indicate a damaged engine block, cylinder head or gasket.
  10. Raise the vehicle.

    Bolt (3) - Remove [2x]

  12. Remove the EN-51140  fixing tool (2).

Cylinder 3:

    Crankshaft Pulley Bolt (2) @ Crankshaft (1) - Install [4x]

    Adjust the piston of cylinder 3 at top dead center (TDC) of compression stroke.

    1. Rotate the crankshaft (1) 180 degrees in direction of arrow until the matching mark (3) is at the bottom. Use a pry bar at the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (2).
  3. Repeat the procedure from cylinder 1 step 2 and perform the leakage test on cylinder 3 and record the value.

Cylinder 4:

    Place the piston of cylinder 4 at top dead center (TDC) of compression stroke.

    1. Rotate the crankshaft (1) 180 degrees in direction of arrow until the matching mark (2) is at the top. Use a pry bar at the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (3).
  3. Repeat the procedure from cylinder 1 step 2 and perform the leakage test on cylinder 4 and record the value.

Cylinder 2:

    Place the piston of cylinder 2 at top dead center (TDC) of compression stroke.

    1. Rotate the crankshaft (1) 180 degrees in direction of arrow until the matching mark (3) is at the bottom. Use a pry bar at the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (2).
  3. Repeat the procedure from cylinder 1 step 2 and perform the leakage test on cylinder 2 and record the value.
