Removal Procedure

- Remove the oil indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement .
- Drain the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
- Remove the steering rack. Refer to Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear Replacement .
- Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement (L83, L86) .
- Remove the drivetrain and front suspension frame front crossmember. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Front Crossmember Replacement .
- If equipped with 4WD, remove the front axle. Refer to Front Axle Replacement (8.25 Inch LD Axle)Front Axle Replacement (9.25 Inch HD Axle) .
- Remove the engine harness retainers (1).
- Remove the engine harness retainers (1).
- Remove the cooler line bracket bolt (1).
- Disconnect electrical connector (2).
- Remove the engine harness retainers (3).
- Remove the left flywheel inspection cover.
- Remove the right flywheel inspection cover.
- Remove the oil cooler bracket fastener (1) and separate the oil cooler hoses (2) from the engine block.
- Remove the transmission cooler line bracket retaining nut and reposition the bracket.
- Remove the transmission to oil pan bolts (1).
- Remove the oil pan bolts (1, 2).
- Remove the oil pan (3).
- Transfer parts as necessary.
