Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 6 other vehicles, including the 2018 GMC Yukon XL, 2018 GMC Yukon, 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe, 2018 Chevrolet Suburban, and 2018 Cadillac Escalade ESV. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- For oil pan assemble, refer to Oil Pan Assemble .
- Apply a 3 mm (0.118 in) bead of RTV sealant on the engine oil pan mating surface as shown (a). Apply a 5 mm (0.197 in) bead of RTV sealant on the engine front cover and rear oil seal housing as shown (b). Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .
- Install the oil pan (3).
- Install the oil pan bolts (1, 2) and hand tighten.
- Tighten the oil pan bolts in sequence as shown above.
- Oil pan bolts to block and front cover (in sequence 1 - 13 and 16) 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Oil pan bolts to rear housing (in sequence 14 - 15) 12 N.m (106 lb in).
- Reposition the cooler line bracket Install the 2 lower bolts securing the transmission to the engine. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
- Reposition the cooler line bracket and install the retaining nut. Tighten the nut to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- position the oil cooler hoses and bracket assembly (2) to the oil pan and install the bracket fastener (1). Tighten the fastener to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
- Install the right flywheel inspection cover and bolt. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
- Install the left flywheel inspection cover and bolt. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
- Install the cooler line bracket bolt (1) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- Connect electrical connector (2).
- Install the engine harness retainers (3).
- Install the engine harness retainers (1).
- Install the engine harness retainers (1).
- If equipped with 4WD, install the front axle. Refer to Front Axle Replacement (8.25 Inch LD Axle)Front Axle Replacement (9.25 Inch HD Axle) .
- Install the drivetrain and front suspension frame front crossmember. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Front Crossmember Replacement .
- Install the starter. Refer to Starter Replacement (L83, L86) .
- Install the steering rack. Refer to Electric Belt Drive Rack and Pinion Steering Gear Replacement .
- Install the oil indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator Tube Replacement
- Fill the engine with the proper capacity and quality of engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement .
- Operate the engine, check for leaks, and oil pressure.
