Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Chevrolet Spark. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: Q8 Control Solenoid Valve AssemblyNOTE:
- When test probing harness terminals, it is imperative to use the proper test probe from the most current version of the J-35616 GM-Approved Terminal Test Kit. Use of an improper test probe may deform the terminal, resulting in intermittent open conditions.
- Testing for step 3 - 4 is performed on the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly connector using the BK probe J-35616-18.
- Chassis ground to battery ground 25 - 35 Ω.
- Ignition On - Engine Off
- Test for 2.4 to 2.8 V between the test points:
- Control circuit terminal 1 & Chassis Ground
- Control circuit terminal 2 & Chassis Ground
- Control circuit terminal 6 & Chassis Ground
- Control circuit terminal 7 & Chassis Ground
- Control circuit terminal 8 & Chassis Ground
- If less than 2.4 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- Test for less than 10 Ω in the affected control circuit end to end.
- Control circuit terminal 1 @ Component harness & Terminal 1X1 @ Control module harness
- Control circuit terminal 2 @ Component harness & Terminal 2X1 @ Control module harness
- Control circuit terminal 6 @ Component harness & Terminal 3X1 @ Control module harness
- Control circuit terminal 7 @ Component harness & Terminal 5X1 @ Control module harness
- Control circuit terminal 8 @ Component harness & Terminal 4X1 @ Control module harness
- If 10 Ω or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 10 Ω
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:
- Control circuit terminal 1 & Chassis Ground
- Control circuit terminal 2 & Chassis Ground
- Control circuit terminal 6 & Chassis Ground
- Control circuit terminal 7 & Chassis Ground
- Control circuit terminal 8 & Chassis Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points:
- Control circuit terminal 1 & all other terminals of the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector.
- Control circuit terminal 2 & all other terminals of the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector.
- Control circuit terminal 6 & all other terminals of the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector.
- Control circuit terminal 7 & all other terminals of the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector.
- Control circuit terminal 8 & all other terminals of the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector.
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short between the circuits or If less than infinite resistance, repair the short together condition in the affected circuits.
- If infinite resistance - Replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module
- If greater than 2.8 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: K71 Transmission Control Module
- If between 2.4 and 2.8 V
- Control Circuit & K71 Transmission Control Module=OK
