Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement (without Engine Block Heater)Battery Tray Replacement (with Engine Block Heater) .
  2. Without draining the coolant or removing the hoses, remove and position aside the radiator surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement .
  3. Remove the shift lever and selector lever cable (1) from the shift control housing (3).

  4. Remove the shift lever and selector lever cable (2) from the selector and shift lever cable bracket (4).
  5. Unclip the wiring harness retainers (1).

  6. Remove the clutch actuator cylinder front pipe retaining clip (1).

  7. Disconnect the clutch actuator cylinder front pipe (2) from the clutch actuator cylinder pipe elbow.
  8. Remove the transmission lower bolt (1).

  9. Unclip the wiring harness retainers (2) from the engine start bracket (6).
  10. Disconnect the backup lamp switch electrical connector (3).
  11. Disconnect the electrical connector (4) from the vehicle speed sensor, if equipped.
  12. Disconnect the oxygen sensor electrical connector (5).
  13. Remove the exhaust muffler. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement (L5Q)Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LV7) .
  14. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (LV7)Catalytic Converter Replacement (L5Q) .
  15. Drain the transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill .
  16. Remove the both front wheel drive shafts (1) from the transmission. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .

  17. Remove the transmission upper bolts (1) and nut (2) from the transmission.

  18. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture (LV7)Engine Support Fixture (L5Q) .
  19. Remove the transmission rear mount bracket. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement .
  20. Remove the transmission rear mount. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Replacement .
  21. Remove the transmission mount - left side. Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement - Left Side .
  22. Remove the transmission mount bracket - left side. Refer to Transmission Mount Bracket Replacement - Left Side .
  23. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
  24. Remove the transmission lower bolt (1).

  25. Remove the transmission side cover (2).
  26. Separate the transmission from the engine.
  27. Lower the transmission with the transmission jack far enough to remove the transmission.
