Removal Procedure

Remove the positive crankcase ventilation hose/pipe/tube. Refer to Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose/Pipe/Tube Replacement .

Remove the oil level indicator (3). Inspect and replace the oil indicator O-ring seals (4), if necessary.
Remove the camshaft cover heat shield (2) and bolts (1).
Remove the ignition coils. Refer to Ignition Coil Replacement .

Disconnect vacuum booster pipe (1).

Remove the vacuum assembly (1). Refer to Vacuum Pump Replacement .

Remove the camshaft position actuator intake (1) solenoid valve. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Intake Solenoid Valve Replacement
Remove the camshaft position actuator exhaust (2) solenoid valve. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Exhaust Solenoid Valve Replacement

NOTE:
It is not necessary to disconnect the wiring harness from the bracket. Reposition the bracket away from the camshaft cover once the fastener is removed.

Remove the wiring harness bracket fastener (1) then reposition the bracket (2).

NOTE:
Note the location of the four long camshaft cover bolts (1) for proper installation.

Camshaft Cover Bolt (1) - Remove [4x]

NOTE:

Inspect for damage and replace as needed.

Camshaft Cover Washer (2) - Remove
Camshaft Cover Bolt (3) - Remove [19x]
Camshaft Cover (4) - Remove

Camshaft Cover Gasket (1) - Remove and DISCARD
If reinstalling the camshaft cover (2), clean and inspect as needed. Camshaft Cover Cleaning and Inspection
