Measurement Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Check the compression of cylinder 1:
- Engine revs at least 300/min.
- A second technician is required.
- Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
- Using the vehicle starter motor to crank the engine.
- Observe the gauge and note the reading as the compression test is being performed
- Remove the assembled compression adapter along with the EN-51110 Compression and Cylinder Leakdown Test Adapter.
WARNING:Refer to Eye Protection Warning
CAUTION:Do not add oil to any cylinder during a compression test as extensive engine damage may result.
NOTE: - Repeat the procedure for all remaining cylinders.
- Compare the compression value from all cylinders.
- There should not be more than 10 percent difference between a suspect cylinder and the average compression of all 4 cylinders. For compression values refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
- If one or more cylinders fails to meet the specified compression range, refer to Cylinder Leakage Test for finding the leakage.
