Measurement Procedure

  1. Check the compression of cylinder 1:
      WARNING:

      Refer to Eye Protection Warning

      CAUTION:

      Do not add oil to any cylinder during a compression test as extensive engine damage may result.

      NOTE:
      • Engine revs at least 300/min.
      • A second technician is required.
    1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
    2. Using the vehicle starter motor to crank the engine.
    3. Observe the gauge and note the reading as the compression test is being performed

    5. Remove the assembled compression adapter along with the EN-51110  Compression and Cylinder Leakdown Test Adapter.
  2. Repeat the procedure for all remaining cylinders.
  3. Compare the compression value from all cylinders.
  4. There should not be more than 10 percent difference between a suspect cylinder and the average compression of all 4 cylinders. For compression values refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
  5. If one or more cylinders fails to meet the specified compression range, refer to Cylinder Leakage Test  for finding the leakage.
