An EGR actuator is used to adjust the exhaust gas recirculation inside the intake manifold so that the appropriate exhaust quantity can be mixed with the intake air. The Engine Control Module transmits the desired position of EGR pintle lift as a Pulse Width Modulated signal to the EGR actuator. The EGR position is monitored by an internal position sensor.
