Circuit/System Testing

NOTE:
If a glow plug is replaced and the tip is missing or burned off, the cylinder head must be removed and all debris be cleaned out of the cylinder.
- Ignition Off, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate E12 Glow Plug.
- Ignition On.
- Verify the glow plug is command Off with a scan tool.
- Test for less than 0.2 V between the glow plug supply voltage circuit terminal 1 and ground.
- If greater than 0.2 V
- Ignition Off, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K20 Engine Control Module.
- Ignition On.
- Test for less than 0.2 V between the glow plug supply voltage circuit and ground.
- If 0.2 V or greater, repair the short to voltage in the circuit.
- If less than 0.2 V replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
- Go to next step: If less than 0.2 V
- Test for greater than 0.2 V while commanding the appropriate glow plug On with a scan tool.
- If less than 0.2 V
- Ignition Off, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K20 Engine Control Module.
- Test for infinite resistance between the appropriate glow plug supply voltage circuit and ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground in the circuit.
- If infinite resistance.
- Test for less than 2 Ω in the glow plug supply voltage circuit end to end.
- If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 2 Ω, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
- Go to next step: If greater than 0.2 V
- Test or replace the appropriate E12 Glow Plug.
NOTE:
The glow plug supply voltage circuit will only stay On for 3 s when commanding the glow plugs On with the scan tool.
