Circuit/System Verification

  1. Ignition On.
  2. Verify DTC P0403, P0405, P0406, P0489, P0490, P1407, P140D, P140E, or P140F is not set.
    • Go to next step: If none of the DTCs are set 
  3. NOTE:

    When using scan tool functions, Engine Reduced Power and Clean Exhaust Filter messages may occur after a short delay when commanding large EGR positions. The messages are a result of ECM protecting hardware during device control mode. No DTCs will be stored and the Diesel Particulate Filter does not need to be service cleaned. Exiting device control will restore normal function.

  4. Verify the scan tool Desired EGR Position and the EGR Position Sensor parameters remain within 3% when commanding the EGR Valve between 0 - 60% with a scan tool.
    • If not within 3% 

      Refer to Circuit/System Testing.

    • Go to next step: If within 3% 
  5. Engine running.
  6. NOTE:

    The MAF parameter is not valid if the Reduced Engine Power message is active.

  7. Command the EGR Valve to 0% with a scan tool and record the MAF Sensor g/s parameter.
  8. Command the EGR Valve to 60% with a scan tool and record the MAF Sensor g/s parameter.
  9. Verify the MAF Sensor parameter is between 2 - 12 g/s and changes when the commanding the EGR Valve 60% with the scan tool.
    • If not between 2 - 12 g/s or does not change 

      Refer to Circuit/System Testing.

    • Go to next step: If between 2 - 12 g/s and changes 
  10. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
  11. Verify a DTC does not set.
    • If a DTC sets 

      Refer to Circuit/System Testing.

    • Go to next step: If a DTC does not set 
  12. All OK.
