Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Buick Cascada. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove the engine sight shield. Refer to Engine Sight Shield Replacement .
  2. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement .
  3. Remove the exhaust front pipe. Refer to Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement .
  4. Remove the warm up three-way catalytic converter. Refer to Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement .

    Unclip the charge air cooler inlet hose retainer clamp (2).

  6. Remove the charge air cooler inlet hose (3) from the turbocharger (1).

    Loosen the clamp (3) - turbocharger side.

  8. NOTE:

    NOT necessary to remove the hose from the camshaft cover (1).

  9. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation vacuum hose (4) from the turbocharger (2).
  10. Remove the charge air bypass valve hose from turbocharger. Refer to Charge Air Bypass Valve Hose Replacement .
  11. Remove the turbocharger oil feed pipe. Refer to Turbocharger Oil Feed Pipe Replacement .
  12. Remove the turbocharger oil return pipe. Refer to Turbocharger Oil Return Pipe Replacement .
  13. Remove the turbocharger coolant feed pipe. Refer to Turbocharger Coolant Feed Pipe Replacement .
  14. Remove the turbocharger coolant return pipe. Refer to Turbocharger Coolant Return Pipe Replacement .

    Remove the 2 turbocharger brace bolts (1).

  16. Remove the turbocharger brace (2).
  17. Disconnect the turbocharger wastegate regulator solenoid valve wiring harness plug.

    NOTE:

    Exhaust manifold bolts with high loosening torque need to be disassembled last to prevent bolt from breaking. Due to the relaxed system (when all other bolts are loosened) the manifold can shift a little and reduce the friction at the bolt threads.

    Remove the 9 exhaust manifold bolts (3).

  19. Remove the turbocharger with exhaust manifold (2) and exhaust manifold heat shield.
  20. Remove and DISCARD the exhaust manifold gasket (1).
  21. Clean the exhaust manifold sealing surfaces at the exhaust manifold and the cylinder head.
  22. Clean the 9 exhaust manifold threads at the cylinder head.
  23. Disassemble the turbocharger. Refer to Turbocharger Disassemble .
