Removal Procedure

NOTE:

Assure that the vehicle is standing on wheels and on leveled surface.

NOTE:

Remove the fixation straps in case the folding was manually closed by the customer according to the emergency closing procedure.

  1. Open all windows.
  2. Fold the rear seat back to the downward position.
  3. Bring the folding top to position 3. Folding Top Positions Overview 
  4. Remove the quarter window outer belt sealing strip. Quarter Window Outer Belt Sealing Strip Replacement
  5. Remove the rear seat cushion. Rear Seat Cushion Removal and Installation
  6. Remove the rear seat back cushion pad. Rear Seat Back Side Pad Replacement
  7. Remove the body side front lower trim panel. Body Side Front Lower Trim Panel Replacement
  8. Remove and lay aside the quarter upper trim panel. Quarter Upper Trim Panel Replacement
  9. Remove the quarter window trim finish panel. Quarter Window Trim Finish Panel Replacement
  10. Disconnect the battery. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection

    NOTE:

    DO NOT loosen the folding top anchor plate bolts (1).

    NOTE:

    Basic adjustment gets lost when bolts are loosened.

    Check paint sealing on all folding top anchor plate bolts (1) on left and right side.

  12. Loosen 3 folding top bolts (2).
    • GM3213231

      Check the alignment between folding top hinge (1) and folding top anchor plate. Folding top should not move in Z or X directions.

    • Repeat the step on the right side.
  13. In case any movement is noticed the folding top must be base adjusted and tested before folding top replacement will be performed. Folding Top Adjustment (With BO-51074-NA Remove/Install and Adjustment Set) Folding Top Adjustment (Without BO-51074-NA Remove/Install and Adjustment Set) 
  14. Bring the folding top to position 2 and secure the folding top tension bow into opening position. See position 2 in Folding Top Positions Overview .

    Loosen the folding top hydraulic cylinder - rear left side upper (1).

    1. Remove the clamp (2).
    2. Remove the pin (3).
    3. Repeat the step on the right side.

    Mark the positions of the cable straps of the folding top wiring harness onto the hydraulic lines.

  17. Remove the cable straps.
  18. Unclip hydraulic lines from body on both sides.
  19. Disconnect the folding top electrical connectors (1).
  20. With the aid of an assistant open the folding top manually into position 3. Folding Top Manual Operation , and Folding Top Positions Overview

    Remove the 3 folding top bolts (2).

    • Repeat the step on the right side

    Apply tape (1) to the folding top stowage compartment lid weatherstrip.

  23. Attach a suitable strap to the folding top hinge (2) for easier removal of the folding top.

    With the aid of a second technician lift the folding top up. Third mechanic places a suitable, at least 1, 70 m long, support (2) under the folding top. Place the folding top on the support. Place the folding top hinges on the body (arrows).

    NOTE:

    DO NOT bend or stretch the hydraulic lines.

    NOTE:

    Note the positions of the folding top hydraulic cylinders.

    Remove the 3 clamps (1).

  26. Remove the 3 pins (2).
  27. Remove the folding top hydraulic cylinders from the folding top hinge.
  28. Repeat on the other side.
  29. With the aid of a second technician remove the folding top from the vehicle.
