Removal Procedure

  1. Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooler - Remove Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooler Replacement
  2. Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter - Remove Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement (LKN)
  3. Intake Manifold - Remove Intake Manifold Replacement 
  4. Disconnect the electrical connectors. (1, 2, 3 and 4)

  5. Fuel Injection Pump - Remove Fuel Injection Pump Replacement
  6. Water Outlet - Remove Water Outlet Replacement (LKN)
  7. Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooler Outlet Pipe Bolt (1) - Remove

  8. Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Intake - Remove Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Solenoid Replacement - Intake
  9. Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Exhaust - Remove Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Solenoid Replacement - Exhaust
  10. Camshaft Position Actuator Adjuster - Remove Camshaft Position Actuator Adjuster Replacement 
  11. Install the EN-36857  engine lift bracket (1) onto the engine block.

  12. Ensure the timing chain (2) and timing chain tensioner shoe bushing (3) clear when cylinder head is removed.
  13. Reposition the engine support fixture lift hook to the EN-36857  engine lift bracket.
    NOTE: Use a suitable device to support the engine while repositioning the lift hook.
  14. Loosen the bolts in the sequence shown.

  15. Cylinder Head Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [10x]

  16. Washer (2) - Remove and DISCARD [10x]
  17. Cylinder Head (1) - Remove

  18. Cylinder Head Gasket (2) - Remove and DISCARD
  19. If reinstalling the cylinder head, perform the cleaning and inspection. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection 
  20. If replacing the cylinder head, transfer all parts as necessary. Refer to Cylinder Head Disassemble 
  21. Clean the old sealer/lube and dirt from the bolt holes.
    NOTE: A nylon bristle brush should be used to clean the bolt holes. Do not use a tap to clean the cylinder head bolt holes.
  22. Clean and inspect all mating surfaces.
    WARNING: Wear safety glasses to avoid injury when using compressed air or any cleaning solvent. Bodily injury may occur if fumes are inhaled or if skin is exposed to chemicals.
    NOTE:
    • When cleaning the engine block cylinder head bolt holes use a suitable commercial spray liquid solvent and compressed air from an extended-tip blow gun to reach the bottom of the holes.
    • Use a gasket scraper to clean the cylinder head and block surfaces.
    • Be careful not to gouge or scratch the gasket surfaces. Do not gouge or scrape the combustion chamber surfaces. The feel of the gasket surface is important, not the appearance. There will be indentations from the gasket left in the cylinder head after all of the gasket material is removed. These small indentations will be filled in by the new gasket.
    • Do not use a tap to clean the cylinder head bolt holes
