Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. If replacing the cylinder head, transfer all parts as necessary. Refer to Cylinder Head Assemble 
  2. Clean all sealing surfaces.
    NOTE: Ensure that the cylinder head and engine block sealing surfaces are clear of oil, grease and old gasket material.
  3. Ensure the timing chain tensioner shoe bushing (3) is properly positioned prior to installing the cylinder head.

  4. Cylinder Head Gasket (2) - Install NEW

  5. Cylinder Head (1) - Install
  6. Washer (2) - Install NEW [10x]

  7. Cylinder Head Bolt (1) - Loosely install [10x]
    NOTE: Use NEW bolts.
  8. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.

    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
    CAUTION: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution .

    Tighten

    1. First Pass: 25 N.m (18 lb ft)
    2. Second Pass: 90 degrees, using the EN-45059  angle meter
    3. Third Pass: 90 degrees, using the EN-45059  angle meter
    4. Fourth Pass: 90 degrees, using the EN-45059  angle meter
    5. Final Pass: 15 degrees, using the EN-45059  angle meter
  9. Remove the EN-36857  engine lift bracket (1) and reposition the lift hook to the cylinder head.

    NOTE: Use a suitable device to support the engine while repositioning the lift hook.
  10. Camshaft Position Actuator Adjuster - Install Camshaft Position Actuator Adjuster Replacement 
  11. Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooler - Install Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooler Replacement
  12. Intake Manifold - Install Intake Manifold Replacement 
  13. Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter - Install Warm Up Three-Way Catalytic Converter Replacement (LKN)
  14. Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooler Outlet Pipe Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 10 N.m (89 lb in)

  15. Fuel Injection Pump - Install Fuel Injection Pump Replacement
  16. Water Outlet - Install Water Outlet Replacement (LKN)
  17. Connect the electrical connectors. (1, 2, 3 and 4)

  18. Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Intake - Install Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Solenoid Replacement - Intake
  19. Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve - Exhaust - Install Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Solenoid Replacement - Exhaust
  20. Change the engine oil and filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
