Removal Procedure

  1. Engine Front Cover Replacement - Lower  - Remove
  2. Re-install the lower engine front cover (1) to the engine block without sealing.

    NOTE: The re-install of the lower engine front cover and of the crankshaft balancer absorber is necessary to set the crankshaft to TDC.
  3. Install 4 engine front lower cover bolts (1) hand tighten.

  4. Temporarily install the crankshaft balancer absorber (2) and the crankshaft balancer bolt (1).

  5. Adjust the engine to cylinder 1 top dead center (TDC) of combustion stroke. Set crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until the markings (2, 3) line up. Rotate at the crankshaft balancer absorber bolt (1).

  6. Timing Chain Upper Guide Replacement  - Remove
  7. Install the EN-51148  holding tool (1) to camshafts and to the cylinder head.

    NOTE: If EN-51148  holding tool does not fit properly, rotate the crankshaft and additional 360 degrees.
    1. Tighten the bolt (3) in the middle.
    2. Tighten the 2 outer bolts (2, 4).
  8. Remove the lower engine front cover and the crankshaft balancer again.
  9. Check the position of the crankshaft. The crankshaft must be set to TDC, the arrow (1) on the crankshaft sprocket and the arrow (2) on the oil pump must align.

  10. If the arrows (1, 2) do not align, install the lower engine front cover with 4 bolts and the crankshaft balancer absorber. Set the engine to TDC, refer to step 5.
  11. Push the timing chain guide - left side (2) in the direction of the arrow.

  12. Fix the tensioner (1) using a 2 mm drill bit or equivalent (3).
  13. Remove the 2 timing chain tensioner bolts (2).

  14. Remove the timing chain tensioner (1).
  15. Remove the timing chain (1) along with the crankshaft sprocket (2).
