Hybrid/EV Battery Sections

The hybrid/EV battery sections consist of lithium - ion cells connected in series to make up the 288V DC battery.

Each hybrid battery section contains 10 cells that are connected in series using internal bus bars. The battery sections are each connected in series using high voltage cables and/or busbars. There are eight battery sections within the high voltage battery assembly. Each of the 80 individual cell groups are rated at 3.6V, for a nominal system voltage of 288V DC.

The hybrid battery sections are air cooled. Air is drawn through the battery case to cool the individual cells. Attached to each section is a vent tube. In the event of a damaged battery, any outgassing will be vented to the outside of the vehicle.

Within each section, a voltage sense circuit is attached to the individual cells. Additionally, two thermistors monitor the temperature of each section. All of these circuits terminate at a Hybrid Battery Interface Control Module located on the top surface of each battery section. The interface modules are connected to each other and the hybrid/EV powertrain control module 2 via serial data.
