Water-in-Fuel Draining

- Remove the underbody front air deflector. Refer to Underbody Front Air Deflector Replacement - Right Side .
- Place a container under the fuel filter housing.
- Turn drain plug (1) counter-clockwise using a suitable socket.

WARNING: Refer to Gasoline/Gasoline Vapors Warning .WARNING: Refer to Safety Goggles and Fuel Warning .NOTE: WIF (water-in-fuel) light indication drain fuel filter illuminates when water level in diesel fuel filter exceeds a specified level. Residual water in the diesel fuel filter must be drained. Seek the assistance of a workshop as soon as possible (vehicle care).NOTE: Drain the diesel fuel filter of residual water at every engine oil change. - With engine switched off, turn ignition key to ON, wait approx. 5 seconds and turn key to LOCK this operation will enhance water to be pushed out to help drain the filter.
- The filter is drained as soon as diesel fuel emerges from the port.
- Retighten the drain plug by turning it clockwise to 2 N.m (18 lb in).CAUTION: Refer to Component Fastener Tightening Caution .
- Prime the fuel system. Refer to Fuel System Priming .
- Check diesel fuel filter at shorter intervals if the vehicle is subjected to extreme operating conditions.
- If there is water in the diesel fuel filter, control indicator WIF light illuminates in the instrument cluster.
- Drain the water immediately.
- Install the underbody front air deflector. Refer to Underbody Front Air Deflector Replacement - Right Side .
