Installation Procedure

  1. Position the steering gear (4) on the drivetrain and front suspension frame.
  2. CAUTION:

    This vehicle is equipped with torque-to-yield or single use fasteners. Install a NEW torque-to-yield or single use fastener when installing this component. Failure to replace the torque-to-yield or single use fastener could cause damage to the vehicle or component.

    NOTE:

    Start ALL fasteners by hand before tightening.

  3. Install the steering gear bolts (3), washers (2) and nuts (1).

    Use NEW bolts.

  4. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  5. Tighten the NEW steering gear bolts (3).

    Tighten

    1. Tighten the bolts a first pass to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).
    2. Tighten the bolts a final pass an additional (90-105 degrees).
  6. Install the front stabilizer shaft on the drivetrain and front suspension frame. Stabilizer Shaft Replacement

  8. Remove the adjustable stands from underneath the vehicle.

  10. Install the power steering gear inlet hose seals (4), power steering gear outlet hose (3) and power steering gear inlet hose (2) in the steering gear.

    Use NEW seals.

  11. Install the power steering gear inlet and outlet hose bolt (1) and tighten to 11 N.m (97 lb in).

  13. Secure the power steering gear outlet hose (3) to the steering gear using the power steering gear inlet hose bracket bolt (1) and the plastic push pin (2).
  14. Tighten the power steering gear outlet hose bracket bolt (1) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  16. Secure the power steering gear inlet hose (3) to the vehicle frame using the power steering gear inlet hose bracket bolt (1) and the plastic push pin (2).
  17. Tighten the power steering gear inlet hose bracket bolt (1) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  19. Exhaust Isolator@Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame - Install - Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LUV)Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (2H0)
  20. Front Stabilizer Shaft Link@Front Stabilizer Shaft - Install - Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement
  21. Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod@Steering Knuckle - Install - Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement 
  22. Intermediate Steering Shaft@Steering Gear - Install - Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement (N40)
  23. Fill and bleed the power steering system. Power Steering System Bleeding 
  24. Measure and adjust the front toe. Wheel Alignment - Steering Wheel Angle and/or Front Toe Adjustment
