Installation Procedure

  1. Inspect the water pump.

    NOTE:
    • Ensure that the engine block surface and water pump surface are clear of old gasket material.
    • Do not immerse the water pump in solvent. The solvent may enter the water pump's permanently lubricated bearings and cause premature bearing failure.
    • The water pump drive pulley and impeller should turn straight and smoothly. If the drive pulley wobbles, is noisy or feels rough when rotating, replace the water pump.
  2. Install a New water pump gasket (1).
  3. Install the water pump (2).
  4. Install the water pump bolts (3) and tighten to 25 N.m (19 lb ft).
    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  5. Filling the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE-47716 Fill)  and Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) .
  6. Install the timing belt. Refer to Timing Belt Replacement (New Belt) and Timing Belt Replacement (Used Belt) .
  7. Close the hood.
