Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Install the engine to the crossmember.
- Tighten both the engine mount nuts to 80 N.m (59 lb ft).
- Install the front frame (2) mountings bolts and tighten to 160 N.m (118 lb ft).
- Install the front frame (1) mountings bolts and tighten to 160 N.m (118 lb ft).
- Install the rear frame (1) mountings bolts and tighten to 240 N.m (177 lb ft).
- Convertible vehicle, install the front end lower structure brace.
- Install the front bumper fascia. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement (Base,RS,SS)Front Bumper Fascia Replacement (ZL1)Front Bumper Fascia Replacement (Z28) .
- Align the front strut (1) with the alignment mark (2).
- Install the front strut bolts (2).
- Install the nuts (1) and tighten to 80 N.m (59 lb ft) plus an additional 180 degrees.
- Install the front stabilizer shaft nut (1) and tighten to 49 N.m (36 lb ft).
- Install the brake hose bracket bolt (1) to the front suspension strut and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
- Install the brake hose bracket bolt (2) to the wheelhouse panel and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
- Install 2 new brake caliper bolts (1) and tighten to 40 N.m (33 lb ft) plus 90 degrees.
- Working under the vehicle, align the match marks and connect the intermediate steering shaft (1) to the steering gear pinion shaft (3).
- Apply thread locking adhesive to the steering gear pinion bolt (2). Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .
- Install the steering gear pinion bolt and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Install A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube (2) to thermal expansion valve tube.
- Install A/C evaporator thermal expansion valve tube nut (1) and tighten to 19 N.m (14 lb ft).
- Install the heater inlet rear and outlet hose (2) to the heater core.
- Engage tension on the heater inlet rear and outlet hose clamps (1) at the heater core using J-38185 pliers.
- Install the power brake booster vacuum hose (1) to the vacuum port on the left side of the intake manifold.
- Install the check valve to the vacuum brake booster.
- Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (L99, LS3)Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (LSA)Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (LS7) .
- Install the air cleaner outlet duct hose. Refer to Air Cleaner Resonator and Outlet Duct Replacement (L99, LS3)Air Cleaner Resonator and Outlet Duct Replacement (LSA)Air Cleaner Resonator and Outlet Duct Replacement (LS7) .
- Install the transmission. Refer to the appropriate procedure:

- Transmission Replacement for the Tremec 6-speed transmission
- Charge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (Belt Driven Compressor) .
- Connect all engine harness electrical connectors. Refer to Harness Routing Views .
- Connect the engine harness (1). Refer to Engine Wiring and Battery Positive Cable Harness Replacement (L99, LS3)Engine Wiring and Battery Positive Cable Harness Replacement (LSA, LS7) .
- Connect electrical connectors (1,2, and 3)
- Fill the engine cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LSA, LS3, LS7, L99 Static Fill)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) .
- If the engine is replaced with a new engine or has been overhauled, perform the Engine Prelubing procedure. Refer to Engine Prelubing .
- If prelubing has not been performed, fill the engine oil. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (LSA, LS3, L99) Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (LS7) .
- Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
- Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
CAUTION:
Refer to Fastener Caution .
NOTE:
The brake bolts must be replaced any time they are removed.
NOTE:
Lubricate the inside diameters of the hose with clean coolant prior to installation.
NOTE:
If necessary, a small amount of denatured alcohol may be used as a lubricant for assembly. Do not use soap.
NOTE:
Prelube is necessary if the engine is replaced or overhauled.
