Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement (LS7) .
  2. Remove the generator bracket. Refer to Generator Bracket Replacement (LS7, LSA) .

  4. Remove the 2 front oil pan to front cover M8 bolts.
  5. Remove the water pump. Refer to Water Pump Replacement (LS7, LS3/L99) .

  7. Disconnect the camshaft position (CMP) sensor electrical connector.

  9. Remove the front cover bolts (1).
  10. Remove the front cover (2) and discard the gasket (3).
  11. Discard the front cover gasket.
  12. Clean and inspect the engine front cover. Refer to Engine Front Cover Cleaning and Inspection (LS7) .

  14. Remove and discard the oil seal (1).
  15. Remove the bolt (2), camshaft position (CMP) sensor (3).
  16. Remove the O-ring (4) from the sensor, as required.
