Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Pontiac G5 and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Clean the steering column shaft splines with a lint-free towel. Ensure the steering column shaft splines are free of dirt and debris.
  2. NOTE: A new steering column jacket comes with lubricant.
  3. Apply 2 grams (0.07 oz) of lubricant to the steering column shaft splines.
  4. Position the new steering column jacket on the steering column.
  5. Ensure the steering wheel alignment mark at the top of the steering column jacket shaft is in the 12 o'clock position.

    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  7. Install the steering column bolts and tighten to 11 N.m (97 lb in).
  8. Remove the steering column and jacket assembly from the vise.
  9. Install the steering column and jacket assembly to the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  10. Install the ignition lock cylinder case. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Case Replacement .
