Flush Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Pontiac G5 and 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
- Remove the thermal expansion valve (TXV). Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Thermal Expansion Valve Replacement .
- Install the stud onto the J 45268-115.
- Install new sealing washers onto the evaporator core. Refer to Air Conditioning System Seal Replacement .
- Install J 45268-115 in place of the TXV.CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
- Install TXV mounting bolts.
Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 7 N.m (62 lb in).
- Install new washers onto the condenser tube and evaporator hose. Refer to Air Conditioning System Seal Replacement .
- Connect the condenser tube and evaporator hose to the J 45268-115.
- Install the TXV block fitting nut.
Tighten: Tighten the nut to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
- Remove the A/C compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .
- Remove the A/C refrigerant filter. Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Thermal Expansion Valve Screen Replacement .
- Service the filter with AC Delco P/N GF 470, before each flush.
- Install the J 45268-10 to the compressor hose assembly.
- Connect the J 45268-1 flush filter to the J 45268-7 flush adapter.
- Connect the blue hose from the J 43600 . See Special Tools .
- Connect the red hose from the J 43600 . See Special Tools .
- Flush the A/C system. Follow the instructions supplied with the J 43600 . See Special Tools .
- Disconnect the red hose from the J 43600 . See Special Tools .
- Disconnect the blue hose from the J 43600 . See Special Tools .
- Disconnect the J 45268-1 flush filter from the J 45268-10 flush adapter.
- Remove the J 45268-10 from the compressor hose assembly.
- If you will reinstall the removed A/C compressor, perform the following procedure:
- Remove the A/C compressor drain plug.
- Drain the PAG oil from the A/C compressor. Rotate the compressor input shaft to assist in draining the PAG oil from the compressor.
- Add the total system capacity of PAG oil to the crankcase of the A/C compressor. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities .
- Add one bottle of J 41447 . See Special Tools .
- Install the A/C compressor drain plug.
Tighten: Tighten the drain plug to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
NOTE: Flushing will remove the fluorescent leak detection dye from the A/C system. - Install the A/C compressor. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .
- Install the A/C refrigerant filter. Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Thermal Expansion Valve Screen Replacement .
- Remove the TXV block fitting nut.
- Disconnect the condenser tube and evaporator hose from the J45268-115.
- Remove the TXV bolts retaining the J 45268-115.
- Remove the J 45268-115.
- Inspect the TXV for debris. Clean or replace as needed.
- Install the TXV. Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Thermal Expansion Valve Replacement .
- Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
- Leak test the fittings using J 42220 .
NOTE:
Warmer engine or ambient temperatures decreases the refrigerant recovery time during the A/C flush procedure.
NOTE:
The filter inside J 45268-1 is serviceable. Remove and discard the check valve from the filter.
NOTE:
Install new sealing washers onto the compressor hose assembly. Refer to Air Conditioning System Seal Replacement .
Assure that the suction and discharge ports on the J 45268-10 correspond to the suction and discharge ports on the compressor hose assembly.

NOTE:
Close the valve on the external refrigerant tank, before starting the flush process.
NOTE:
Flushing will remove all the PAG oil from the A/C system.
The A/C system must be replenished with the correct amount of PAG oil.

A new service compressor is shipped with a partial charge of PAG oil. Refer to Refrigerant System Capacities .
