Inflatable Restraint Front Passenger Mass Sensor Replacement

Refer to SIR Warning .

WARNING:

To avoid personal injuries, re-zero the passenger presence system whenever you remove or replace the seat cushion or trim. Failure to do so may cause the system to malfunction.

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to. SIR Disabling and Enabling 
  2. Remove the front seat cushion cover and pad. Refer to. Front Seat Cushion Cover and Pad Replacement
  3. When working with the passenger seat re-zero the inflatable restraint passenger presence system whenever the seat cushion or any component of the passenger presence system is removed. Refer to Control Module References .
1 Inflatable Restraint Passenger Presence Sensor Retainer (Qty: 2)
TIP:  Use a flat bladed tool to release retainers from the seat frame.
2 Inflatable Restraint Passenger Presence System
CAUTION:

Always remove the entire seat cushion cover and pad prior to replacing the Passenger Presence System (PPS) sensor. The PPS sensor is sensitive to placement and fastening. Always verify that the sensor is properly placed, completely flat, and correctly fastened before installing the seat cushion pad and cover. An improperly installed sensor can result in the improper operation of the PPS.

Procedure

  1. Disconnect the electrical connectors.
  2. The inflatable restraint passenger presence module and sensor are serviced separately. Replacing the sensor does not require replacement of the module.
  3. Remove the passenger presence system.
  4. Program the inflatable restraint passenger presence system after replacement. Refer to Control Module References .
