Front Seat Back Cushion Cover and Cushion Pad Replacement

WARNING:

Do not repair or replace the seat stitching or seams in the seat back trim cover with an internal mounted seat side airbag module. Replace the complete seat back trim cover from the OEM. Non-OEM seat stitching may cause improper airbag deployment which could result in personal injury.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Remove the front seat. Refer to Bucket Seat Removal and Installation 
  2. Remove the driver or passenger seat back cushion finish panel. Refer to Front Seat Back Cushion Finish Panel Replacement 
  3. Remove the front seat head restraint guide. Refer to Driver or Passenger Seat Head Restraint Guide Replacement 
  4. Remove the front seat back recliner outer trim panel. Refer to Front Seat Back Recliner Outer Trim Panel Replacement (Power) Front Seat Back Recliner Outer Trim Panel Replacement (Manual) 
1 Front Seat Back Cushion Cover

Procedure

  1. Disengage the j-channel retainers from the seat back cushion frame.
  2. Disengage the lower closeout panel pushpin retainers from the seat back cushion frame.
  3. Remove the lower close out panel.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connectors that attach to the seat back cushion, if equipped.
  5. Remove the inflatable restraint side impact module nuts (2).
  6. Disconnect the airbag electrical harness from the seat cushion frame and note the routing for install.
  7. Remove the seat back cushion cover, pad airbag and harness as an assembly.
  8. Slide the inflatable restraint side impact module out of the chute. Refer to Front Seat Outboard Seat Back Airbag Replacement .
  9. Remove the hog rings in order to pull the cover away from the pad.
NOTE:

When a seat back cushion cover is replaced on a front seat equipped with manual lumbar, the technician must create a small 10mm cross slit in the trim cover to allow the lumbar actuator shaft through the cover exposing it, thereby allowing the lumbar knob to be attached to the shaft. The covers can be slid over the foam. Once the cover is on, the tech can feel for the location of the shaft so they know exactly where to make the slits
2 Front Seat Side Inflatable Restraint Module Nut (Qty: 2)
CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .


Tighten 
5.5 N.m (49 lb in)
