Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Install the engine to the frame.
    2. CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  2. Install the engine mount lower retaining fasteners and tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
  3. With the aid of an assistant, carefully lower the body to the frame.
  4. Install the frame with the engine and radiator cooling module.
  5. Install the front frame mountings bolts and tighten to 160 N.m (118 lb ft).
  6. Install the rear frame mountings bolts and tighten to 240 N.m (177 lb ft).
  7. Connect the front lower control arm ball joints to the steering knuckles. Refer to Front Lower Control Rear Arm Replacement .
  8. Connect the rear lower control arm ball joints to the steering knuckles. Refer to Front Lower Control Front Arm Replacement .
  9. Connect the outer tie rod ends to the steering knuckles. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
  10. Connect the intermediate shaft to the steering gear. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  11. Raise the vehicle.
  12. Remove the J 39580  from under the vehicle.
  13. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement .
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Install the front wheel and tire assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  16. Connect all necessary engine harness electrical connectors. Refer to Powertrain Component Views and Harness Routing Views .
  17. Connect the fuel feed line to the engine assembly.
  18. Connect the evaporator line to the engine assembly.
  19. Connect the air conditioning liquid line to the condenser assembly.
  20. Connect the heater core hose to the quick disconnect fittings on the engine.
  21. Connect the cables and harnesses to the underhood electrical center.
  22. Install the powertrain control module to the PCM bracket.
  23. Connect the positive cable to the jump start location.
  24. Install the front fascia. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  25. Connect the engine to body ground wire to the engine assembly.
  26. Connect the air conditioning suction line to the cowl.
  27. Connect the cables and harnesses to the underhood electrical center.
  28. Install the air cleaner resonator outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement .
  29. Add engine coolant to the system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (LS3, L99 Static Fill) or Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716) .
  30. Charge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging .
  31. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
  32. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  33. Road test the vehicle when done.
