Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the grille. Refer to Grille Replacement (GMC) or Grille Replacement (Chevrolet) in Exterior Trim.
  2. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) condenser. Refer to Condenser Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  3. Remove the valve lifters. Refer to Valve Lifter Replacement .
  4. Remove the timing chain and sprocket. Refer to Timing Chain and Sprockets Replacement .
  5. Remove the camshaft retainer bolts.
  6. Remove the camshaft retainer.

  8. Install three 8 - 1.25 x 100 mm bolts into the camshaft front bolt holes.
  9. Using the bolts as a handle, carefully rotate and pull the camshaft out of the engine block.
  10. Remove the bolts from the front of the camshaft.
  11. Clean and inspect the camshaft. Refer to Camshaft and Bearings Cleaning and Inspection .
