Exhaust Camshaft, Follower, and Adjuster Install

  1. Install the hydraulic element lash adjusters into their bores in the cylinder head.
  2. Lubricate the hydraulic element lash adjusters with engine oil supplement.

  4. Lubricate the valve tips with engine oil supplement.

    IMPORTANT: Used roller followers must be returned to the original position on the camshaft. If the camshaft is being replaced, the roller followers actuated by the camshaft must also be replaced.
  6. Position the roller followers on the tip of the valve stem and on the lash adjuster. Lubricate the roller followers with engine oil supplement.

  8. Set the exhaust camshaft on top of the roller followers in the camshaft bearing journals. Lubricate with engine oil supplement.
  9. Install the camshaft bearing caps and hand start the camshaft cap bolts.

    NOTE: Refer to FASTENER NOTICE in Cautions and Notices.
  11. The timing chain sprocket alignment notch should be oriented to the two o' clock position.
  12. Tighten the camshaft bearing cap bolts in increments of three turns until they are seated, lubricate.

    Tighten:  Tighten the camshaft bearing caps to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  14. Apply a 3.5 mm (0.138 in) bead of Permatex® anaerobic gasket maker 51813 to the rear intake camshaft bearing cap.
  15. Install the rear intake camshaft bearing cap bolts.

    Tighten:  Tighten the bolts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
